Most people select an initial deep cleaning to start, then switch to a routine cleaning service at a frequency that suits them. A first cleaning is always the most intense as we bring a house up to our sparkling clean standards.

Hint: Some people like to use the rotation cleaning system and a priority list. Because it can take quite a bit more time to get the entire home up to that initial level of cleaning perfection, we’ll focus on your priority areas first. Then as we continue to come and clean your home, the little ‘extras’ that make up a deep cleaning will be rotated in, and eventually we will have your entire home sparkling. (Usually within 2-3 cleanings).

Franchise Description: Merry Maids Limited Partnership is the franchisor. The franchisor grants franchises for house and window cleaning services for customers who do not have the time nor the desire to clean regularly. The Merry Maids system is designed and best suited for residential customers. While the Merry Maids system provides thorough residential cleaning even for a customer desiring only a one-time visit, the system is not for disaster restoration or extraordinary cleaning projects. The franchisor does also offer a conversion franchise to those persons wishing to convert their existing residential cleaning business to a Merry Maids franchised business.

Training Overview: Franchisees or their manager must complete the Initial Training Program in Memphis, Tennessee, or at such other location as the franchisor may designate. If franchisees are a new franchisee to the Merry Maids network and no Initial Training Program is immediately available after they sign their agreement, the franchisor may allow them to attend a mentor office to assist their start-up. The franchisor usually holds an annual three-day National Seminar at a hotel/convention center at a designated location within the United States. The program for the National Seminar includes at least 15 hours of training sessions for franchise owners and managers. Franchisees must attend, at their own expense, the first National Seminar scheduled after they have signed the Franchise Agreement. The franchisor also holds Regional Meetings one or more times per year, at hotels in various cities. These meetings include at least six hours of training for franchise owners and managers. Franchisees or a designated officer or manager of the franchised business must attend at least two of the meetings offered each year, which includes the National Seminar and Regional Meetings. Additional virtual trainings are available throughout the year on topics which the franchisor believes will be of interest to franchise businesses. During the first 12 weeks of business operations, the franchisor will provide business coaching consisting of regular telephone calls.

Territory Granted: The franchisee will receive a territory (Market) with a minimum of 15,000 to 35,000 Qualified Households for a Full-Sized Market, a minimum of 8,000 to 15,000 Qualified Households for a Mid-Sized Market, and up to 8,000 Qualified Households for a Small-Sized Market. A Qualified Household is a household with an average annual income of $75,000 or higher. In addition to Qualified Households, the franchisor will also consider total population and relative affluence in designating each Market, utilizing census data from SRC, LLC located in Orange, California. While the Franchise Agreement is in effect, the franchisor will not establish or license another to establish any other Merry Maids franchise within the Market. Except when advertising cooperatively with appropriate franchisees, franchisees cannot advertise or solicit sales or accept orders outside their Market. Franchisees may face competition from other franchisees, from the franchisor’s company-owned business, or from other channels of distribution or competitive brands that the franchisor controls.

Obligations and Restrictions: The franchisor recommends, but does not require, that franchisees personally supervise the franchised business. If franchisees do not personally supervise the business, or if they are a corporation, partnership, or limited liability company, they must employ a manager who will be responsible for direct, on-premises supervision of the business. The manager must have successfully completed the Merry Maids training program. Franchisees must offer and provide all the services required. If a customer outside of the franchisee’s Market is seeking cleaning services, the franchisee shall refer the request to the Merry Maids office which covers the customer’s area. Franchisees are required to follow the franchisor’s cleaning processes and use its cleaning products.

Term of Agreement and Renewal: The initial franchise term is for five years. If franchisees have complied with the Franchise Agreement and maintained the business in accordance with the OperationsManual, they will have the option of renewing the franchise for additional periods of five years each.

Financial Assistance: The franchisor does not offer direct financing. Its affiliate, ServiceMaster Acceptance Company (SMAC), does offer financing for up to 80% of the Initial Franchise Fee up to a seven-year period.
