Duke granted gossip ban on ex- maids services
By Sue Clough Courts Correspondent12:01AM BST 23 Aug 2002
The Duke of Westminster, one of Britain’s wealthiest men, yesterday won a High Court injunction banning his former maids services from revealing details of his private life.

Frances Hewson, 51, earned £14,000 a year as the duke’s maids services at Eaton Hall, his country seat in Cheshire, until her dismissal last October. Neither party was in court for the hearing.

Tom Croxford, for the duke, told Mr Justice Stanley Burnton that “my client comes somewhat reluctantly to seek an injunction”. But recent newspaper articles featuring Mrs Hewson showed that she was thinking of writing a book or magazine articles about her time in the duke’s employ.

This would breach the confidentiality terms of her contract of employment and a verbal undertaking she had given earlier this year, said Mr Croxford.

Granting the injunction, the judge gave leave for Mrs Hewson, who was not represented, to apply to have it varied or discharged.

maids services loses claim 14 Aug 2002
The duke, 50, whose wealth is estimated at £4 billion, authorised Mrs Hewson’s dismissal after complaints from other members of his staff about “malicious gossip”. She was sacked for gross misconduct after her activities caused “discontent and disharmony” below stairs.

After her dismissal Mrs Hewson, who had worked for the duke for seven years, lost her grace and favour cottage on the 11,000-acre estate. Earlier this month an employment tribunal in Liverpool unanimously ruled against her claim for unfair dismissal.

Mrs Hewson now works as a night cleaner on a business estate. She turned down an offer of £5,000 from the duke’s lawyers to settle the case before it went to the tribunal, and since losing the case has reportedly been offering to reveal details of the Westminster’s private lives to newspapers for money.

Mrs Hewson, a mother of two, was quoted as saying: “I have been branded as a gossip, so I might as well behave as one. This is a David and Goliath situation. It’s not me but I don’t feel I have much of a choice.”

She has already revealed that Natalia, the duke’s wife, ordered staff to position lavatory paper in the stately home’s 20 en suite bathrooms so that only two sheets were hanging down. Furniture in the grand drawing room had to be in a precise line with the obelisk in the courtyard, and bed linen in all the rooms had to be folded so that the “W” monogram on the sheets was not creased. Upstairs rooms had to be cleaned clockwise, claimed Mrs Hewson.

Before the High Court hearing a spokesman for the Grosvenor Estate said: “We have reminded her of her obligations of confidentiality in her contract of employment.

“The Grosvenor family have never sought publicity and are entitled to their private life. Therefore Mrs Hewson has given us no other option than to take out this injunction.”

CLEANING AND JANITORIAL SERVICES
If you operate a maid services, janitorial, custodial, or swimming pool maintenance service, you should be collecting sales and use tax. Request a sales tax permit online.

Collecting Tax
You should collect state tax, plus any local (city, county, special purpose district, or transit) taxes on the amount you bill for your service.

Examples of Taxable Services
Tax is due on the charge to clean a home, office, warehouse, garage, restaurant, or any other building, or a swimming pool. For example, you should collect tax on your charges for such things as cleaning and straightening; washing windows, floors, walls, and ceilings; cleaning chimneys or air ducts; replacing light bulbs or fuses; picking up trash indoors or outdoors; and maintaining swimming pools.

Charges for minor repairs, adjustments, and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems (for example, cleaning or changing filters) are subject to tax, if such services are done as part of your custodial service.

Charges for repair, remodeling, and restoration done on nonresidential buildings also are taxable. As an example, you should collect tax on the total charge, including labor and materials, to paint or hang wallpaper in an office.

Pressure washing is taxable as the restoration or maintenance of tangible personal property (see Rule 3.292). Pressure washing buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots is taxable as building or grounds cleaning (see Rule 3.356).

Swimming pool maintenance is a taxable real property service whether done on residential or nonresidential (commercial) property. Swimming pool maintenance includes testing, acid washing, adding and balancing chemicals, cleaning and changing filters, and vacuuming.

Examples of Nontaxable Services
There is no tax on the charges of a self-employed person who provides traditional household services such as housekeeping, babysitting, or cooking. For the charges to be exempt from tax, the person must be an employee of the household and not act as a subcontractor for a third party, such as a maid services

The tax exemption does not include other types of real property services provided by self-employed individuals to residential customers. For example, landscaping or pool cleaning services done at a residential household by a self-employed individual are taxable as real property services. See sections (a)(7) and (b) of Rule 3.356 relating to real property services.

Building maintenance and groundskeeping are not taxable when purchased by a contractor or a home builder as part of the improvement of real property with a new residential structure to be used as a residence, or when making an improvement to residential realty that qualifies as new construction. See Homebuilders and Real Property Services for more information.

Materials, Supplies and Equipment
You must pay tax on all soap, cleaners, chemicals, materials, supplies, and equipment used to perform your services.

When performing taxable services, you can give your supplier a resale certificate instead of paying tax on goods that are transferred to the care, custody, and control of your customer as a part of your service. Examples of such items that are passed on to your customers include wax and furniture oil or polish, and toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap left in the restrooms for your customers’ use.

When performing a nontaxable service, you must pay tax on these items.

Reselling a Cleaning Service
At times, you may subcontract with a third party, such as a maid services to clean for you. In this case, the third party will bill you, and you, in turn, will bill your customer. You can give the third party a resale certificate instead of paying tax on the sales price for the service. You must then collect tax from your customer on the total charge.

Franchise Description: Merry Maids Limited Partnership is the franchisor. The franchisor grants franchises for house and window cleaning services for customers who do not have the time nor the desire to clean regularly. The Merry Maids system is designed and best suited for residential customers. While the Merry Maids system provides thorough residential cleaning even for a customer desiring only a one-time visit, the system is not for disaster restoration or extraordinary cleaning projects. The franchisor does also offer a conversion franchise to those persons wishing to convert their existing residential cleaning business to a Merry Maids franchised business.

Training Overview: Franchisees or their manager must complete the Initial Training Program in Memphis, Tennessee, or at such other location as the franchisor may designate. If franchisees are a new franchisee to the Merry Maids network and no Initial Training Program is immediately available after they sign their agreement, the franchisor may allow them to attend a mentor office to assist their start-up. The franchisor usually holds an annual three-day National Seminar at a hotel/convention center at a designated location within the United States. The program for the National Seminar includes at least 15 hours of training sessions for franchise owners and managers. Franchisees must attend, at their own expense, the first National Seminar scheduled after they have signed the Franchise Agreement. The franchisor also holds Regional Meetings one or more times per year, at hotels in various cities. These meetings include at least six hours of training for franchise owners and managers. Franchisees or a designated officer or manager of the franchised business must attend at least two of the meetings offered each year, which includes the National Seminar and Regional Meetings. Additional virtual trainings are available throughout the year on topics which the franchisor believes will be of interest to franchise businesses. During the first 12 weeks of business operations, the franchisor will provide business coaching consisting of regular telephone calls.

Territory Granted: The franchisee will receive a territory (Market) with a minimum of 15,000 to 35,000 Qualified Households for a Full-Sized Market, a minimum of 8,000 to 15,000 Qualified Households for a Mid-Sized Market, and up to 8,000 Qualified Households for a Small-Sized Market. A Qualified Household is a household with an average annual income of $75,000 or higher. In addition to Qualified Households, the franchisor will also consider total population and relative affluence in designating each Market, utilizing census data from SRC, LLC located in Orange, California. While the Franchise Agreement is in effect, the franchisor will not establish or license another to establish any other Merry Maids franchise within the Market. Except when advertising cooperatively with appropriate franchisees, franchisees cannot advertise or solicit sales or accept orders outside their Market. Franchisees may face competition from other franchisees, from the franchisor’s company-owned business, or from other channels of distribution or competitive brands that the franchisor controls.

Obligations and Restrictions: The franchisor recommends, but does not require, that franchisees personally supervise the franchised business. If franchisees do not personally supervise the business, or if they are a corporation, partnership, or limited liability company, they must employ a manager who will be responsible for direct, on-premises supervision of the business. The manager must have successfully completed the Merry Maids training program. Franchisees must offer and provide all the services required. If a customer outside of the franchisee’s Market is seeking cleaning services, the franchisee shall refer the request to the Merry Maids office which covers the customer’s area. Franchisees are required to follow the franchisor’s cleaning processes and use its cleaning products.

Term of Agreement and Renewal: The initial franchise term is for five years. If franchisees have complied with the Franchise Agreement and maintained the business in accordance with the OperationsManual, they will have the option of renewing the franchise for additional periods of five years each.

Financial Assistance: The franchisor does not offer direct financing. Its affiliate, ServiceMaster Acceptance Company (SMAC), does offer financing for up to 80% of the Initial Franchise Fee up to a seven-year period.

The Best Kitchen Cleaning Supplies, According to Professional House Cleaners

When it comes to kitchen cleaning supplies, it’s easy for the average shopper to get sucked in by the latest and greatest promise. Whether it’s a multi-purpose spray that will supposedly replace all your other cleaners, or a new kind of bottle that’s somehow more efficient and ergonomic, there’s always something to get us excited.

Professional house cleaners? Well, they know better.

They’ve tried out the products, seen through the gimmicks, and cut through the clutter to find the most efficient (and typically, the most economical) way to get your house clean. While some professional house cleaners provide their own products, others use what you’ve got in the house, so they’ve tried it all.

Professional house cleaners also tend to have a penchant for eco-friendlier and less chemical-laden cleaners, because they are exposed to the stuff all day, every day. “We are also seeing more customers steering away from traditional types of bleach cleaning products, as they are harsh and leave a strong potent smell which is overpowering,” says Michael Dimopoulos, an NYC-based Thumbtack House Cleaner and Founder of Lazy Susan’s Cleaning Service.

With all that in mind, here are the best cleaning supplies, according to Dimopoulos and two other professional house cleaners.

Kitchn Daily

Every day we’ll send you our choice selection of the best recipes, posts and kitchen tours.EMAIL Address Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

1. Bona mop and floor cleaner

“It’s the best for expensive wood flooring,” says Dimopoulos. The formula is gentle enough for older homes with original flooring and it won’t damage the finish.

Buy: Bona 4 Piece Hardwood Floor Care System, $30

2. Traditional wring mop

For non-wood floors, an old-fashioned mop is best. “In large spaces with tiles or concrete, nothing does a job better than a real traditional wring mop with great detergent, hot water, and maybe vinegar,” says Dimopoulos.

Our favorite: O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop and Bucket Floor Cleaning System, $34

3. Microfiber cloths

All of our cleaners swear by microfiber cloths. “I use these on every surface,” says Dimopoulos. Melissa Maker, a Toronto-based cleaning expert and founder of Clean My Space, agrees: “They last forever, dry quickly and don’t harbor bacteria.”

Some Microfiber Cloths We Love

  • SimpleHouseware Microfiber Cleaning Cloth, $20 for 50
  • Amazon Basics Microfiber Cleaning Cloth, $16 for 24

4. Mrs. Meyers multi-surface cleaners

“Mrs. Meyers provides a great result and is good for the environment, too,” says Dimopoulos. Hermina Gil, owner of It’s All About Homes in Raleigh, NC (and the woman who keeps my house spick-and-span), has a similar sentiment: “If I only used one cleaning product, it would be Mrs. Meyers.”

5. Non-cellulose sponges

“These are great for any wipe-downs or any general cleaning where you don’t need to use anything heavy-duty,” says Maker. As a bonus, they don’t harbor bacteria, odors, or stains like cellulose sponges do.

6. Paper towels

As much as professional cleaners like to be eco-friendly, nothing beats paper towels for getting a shine on mirrors and glass, say Dimopoulos. Gil agrees: “Countertops sparkle when you dry off the liquid fully, so paper towels are a must.”

7. Coconut oil spray

“I use this as a natural furniture and leather polish,” says Dimopoulos. And it’s eco-friendly, too. Use it on your kitchen table, chairs, buffet, and other pieces.

8. Vinegar and water

In their own homes, Maker and Dimopoulos both like this natural DIY solution for regular cleaning. “Just don’t expect it to be as effective as a commercial cleanser for deep cleaning,” says Dimopoulos.

One last note from the pros: Be sure to stock up! Often, professional house cleaners are surprised by how little cleaning product is left in the bottle for them to work with. If you’re cleaning yourself, you’re also going to need enough supplies.

Whether you hire a professional floor cleaner or do the job yourself, the fact is, our floors need to be cleaned. They get dirty, attract scuffs and accumulate spills. But what kind of cleaner should you use for different types of floors?Get quotes from up to

Asphalt tile: Try to mop every week using 1 cup of fabric softener in half a pail of water. Don’t flood the floor, since excess water can loosen adhesives and grout. Remove marks with fine-grade steel wool and liquid floor wax. Rub clean, then wipe with a damp cloth.

Brick flooring: Since brick is porous, keep the surface sealed and waxed with a commercial sealer. Mop after vacuuming. Use 1 cup of vinegar mixed in water to make it shine. Use a solvent-based wax, and use a wax stripper and brush to remove buildup as needed. Don’t use acids, strong soaps or abrasives.

Ceramic tile: Glazed ceramic is virtually stain proof; however, if it is unglazed, that means it’s porous and will need to be sealed. Don’t use harsh abrasives, acids or strong soaps on unglazed ceramic. Mop with all-purpose cleaner, and dry with a soft cloth. Strip unglazed ceramic once a year and rinse thoroughly afterward.

Concrete: Since concrete is very porous, it stains easily. Prior to sealing with a commercial sealer, sweep up loose dirt, and clean with an all-purpose cleaner. Use kitty litter to absorb oil and grease on your garage floor. Spread with a stiff broom, working from the back of the garage to the front, and then wash clean using a garden hose. If you need to use a heavy-duty floor cleaner, apply with a sponge mop, rinse and allow to dry.  Concrete floors can be kept clean easier if they are treated with an epoxy paint or other strong coating.

Flagstone and slate: Natural stone is rough and porous and should be sealed with a commercial sealer. Apply two thin coats of acrylic floor finish using a lamb’s wool pad, or apply paste with a floor polishing machine. Occasionally strip, rinse and reapply wax. Use a mop using either clear water, all-purpose cleaner or water with fabric softener.

Linoleum and vinyl: Prior to waxing, vacuum and mop, remove marks with a fine grade steel wool. Cleaning linoleum and vinyl floors is easy, but be careful of the products you use.  Solvent-based products, scouring, flooding and using very hot water are all bad for linoleum. The fastest way to clean the floor is with a one-step cleaner or polish, but the best way is to mop with all-purpose cleaner.

Marble: Non-polished marble is very porous, so seal it with commercial sealer. Mop it with clear water and all-purpose cleaner. You can also use 1 cup fabric softener to ½ gallon water, and use a self-polishing liquid wax. Strip occasionally, rinse and reapply wax. You also can use water-based wax or paste wax. If using a paste, test in a corner of the room to make sure the paste won’t discolor the flooring.

House cleaning experts can help you get any floor sparkling clean.

Cleaning hardwood floors

Many vintage and restored homes have original hardwood floors made of oak, maple or exotic woods like Brazilian cherry. Bamboo and other hardwood alternatives have become popular in recent years because they are made from a renewable source.

These floors can be cleaned by a daily sweep with a dust mop. Once a week, they can be damp mopped with a quality, liquid soap. There are also some cleaners that have gentle detergents and oils in them that will protect the wood’s natural finish.

When mopping a wood floor, be careful not to get too much liquid on the floor at one time. Wood floors can be damaged by being overly saturated.

As we enter into the cold season, many of our customers ask us how to care for their hardwood floors.

Hiring a floor cleaner

Professional floor cleaners use special tools and sometimes floor cleaning machines to clean and disinfect stained floors. Most people are familiar with professional carpet cleaning, but professional floor cleaners also clean other kinds of flooring such as tile and wood. Here are some basic tips related to finding and hiring a professional floor cleaner:

Floor cleaning cost: The vast majority of professional floor cleaners charge for their services by the square foot. The larger the floor area that needs to be cleaned, the more it will cost to use a professional floor cleaner.

Finding a floor cleaner: Homeowners and business owners are fortunate because there are several ways that they can find a good floor cleaner. Check reviewes or chat with friends and family for a recommendation a quality professional floor cleaning company. Those who are hiring professional floor cleaners should always compare quotes from several different companies no matter how these companies are located.

Frequency: Most experts recommend that carpeted floors be professionally cleaned at least once a year if they experience a lot of foot traffic. Tile floors should be cleaned professionally when the grout gets stained. The frequency of cleaning can be adjusted depending on special circumstances.

Floor maintenance

It is essential for homeowners and business owners to maintain their floors if they want to reduce the amount of money they spend on the repair, replacement and professional cleaning of their flooring. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Ease of maintenance: Simply put, some floors are easier to clean and maintain than others. Carpet needs far more attention than hard surfaces because it is easy for spills to stain carpet fibers. Dirt also gets ground into carpets quite easily. Hard surfaces such as tile and wood are simpler to clean because they do not easily stain, and they resist the damage that dirt can cause. Of these hard flooring options, wood is easier to maintain because, unlike most tiled floors, it does not have grout that can get stained.

Basic floor care products: A mop and a broom are a must for nearly anyone that has floors to clean. A vacuum will also be necessary if some or all of the flooring is carpeted. Spot cleaners will be needed for carpeted floors, and wax is required for wood floors.

Keeping floors clean: The first step in floor cleaning and maintenance is keeping the dirt away. Welcome mats should be placed at entrances so that people can scrape the dirt off their shoes before they enter. In some places, such as a home, there can even be a rule that people remove their shoes before entering. Immediately cleaning up spills, especially on carpet, also makes it less likely that dirt will get embedded in the flooring.

cleaning product

When a pain in Beth Greer’s shoulder led her to a chiropractor nine years ago, she wasn’t that worried. After all, she led a healthy lifestyle: She watched her weight, meditated regularly, and ate mostly organic food. Greer’s chiropractor wasn’t worried either; he diagnosed her with a herniated disk. But after three sessions, not only was she not better, the pain was beginning to radiate down her arm and into her fingers.

An MRI revealed the true cause of Greer’s pain: a tennis-ball-size tumor in her chest. The good news was the mass was benign. Still, each of the three thoracic surgeons Greer saw strongly recommended she have it removed. One wanted to get at it by going in under her collarbone, one wanted to reach the mass through her armpit, and the third wanted to remove a rib to get the tumor from the back.

They all agreed on just one thing: The surgery was risky. Because the tumor was in such a nerve-packed place, there was a real possibility that removing it could cause Greer to lose feeling in her hand.

Greer opted out of the surgery, and instead focused on doing everything she could to support her body’s healing capacity. Curious by nature (she and her husband, Steven Seligman, owned the Learning Annex, a group of schools offering short-term classes on everything from relationships to real-estate), Greer decided to learn everything she could about her condition and discovered that tumors typically grow in response to irritation and inflammation. Eliminating environmental toxins that might be contributing to her tumor’s growth seemed like a practical first step.

First, she turned her attention to the conventional household cleaning products tucked away in her cabinets. “I’d look at a label and it would say ‘hazardous to humans and domestic animals,’” says Greer. “So why would anyone want to use that?”

She ultimately tossed her entire collection of toxic cleaning products and began making her own with ingredients like vinegar, baking soda and essential oil. She also swapped her commercial body-care products and makeup for nontoxic ones, and she cleaned up her already healthy diet by eating only whole, unprocessed foods — without any labels.

Nine months later, her tumor was gone. Completely. Although she can’t pin her results on any one environmental change, Greer’s confident that cutting down her exposure to toxins played a critical role — so much so that she’s made sharing that information with others a central part of her life.

Today, Greer consults professionally with others who want to detoxify their homes and offices. In 2002 she and Seligman sold the Learning Annex and she began writing about toxin-free living. The result is her book, Super Natural Home.

During her research for the book, Greer was shocked to learn that there’s no federal regulation of chemicals in household products. Rebecca Sutton, PhD, a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group (EWG), explains, “In terms of household cleaners, neither ingredients nor products must meet any sort of safety standard, nor is any testing data or notification required before bringing a product to market.”

The average household contains about 62 toxic chemicals, say environmental experts. We’re exposed to them routinely — from the phthalates in synthetic fragrances to the noxious fumes in oven cleaners. Ingredients in common household products have been linked to asthma, cancer, reproductive disorders, hormone disruption and neurotoxicity.

Manufacturers argue that in small amounts these toxic ingredients aren’t likely to be a problem, but when we’re exposed to them routinely, and in combinations that haven’t been studied, it’s impossible to accurately gauge the risks. While a few products cause immediate reactions from acute exposure (headaches from fumes, skin burns from accidental contact), different problems arise with repeated contact. Chronic exposure adds to the body’s “toxic burden” — the number of chemicals stored in its tissues at a given time.

This toxic body burden is EWG’s chief concern about household chemicals. Sutton explains: “Our concern is daily, weekly, chronic exposure over a lifetime. Maybe if you’re exposed to a chemical a handful of times it wouldn’t cause harm, but some chemicals build up enough or cause enough harm in your body over time that it triggers some kind of disease outcome. The concept [of body burden] is that pollution is not just in our air and in our water — it’s also in us.”

No one can avoid exposure to toxic chemicals altogether, but it is possible to reduce it significantly. In the following pages, Greer, Sutton and other experts weigh in on the worst toxic offenders commonly found in household cleaning products, and offer ways to swap them for healthier, safer options.

  1. Phthalates
Found in: Many fragranced household products, such as air fresheners, dish soap, even toilet paper. Because of proprietary laws, companies don’t have to disclose what’s in their scents, so you won’t find phthalates on a label. If you see the word “fragrance” on a label, there’s a good chance phthalates are present.

Health Risks: Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors. Men with higher phthalate compounds in their blood had correspondingly reduced sperm counts, according to a 2003 study conducted by researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Harvard School of Public Health. Although exposure to phthalates mainly occurs through inhalation, it can also happen through skin contact with scented soaps, which is a significant problem, warns Alicia Stanton, MD, coauthor of Hormone Harmony. Unlike the digestive system, the skin has no safeguards against toxins. Absorbed chemicals go straight to organs.

Healthier Choice: When possible choose fragrance-free or all-natural organic products. Greer recommends bypassing aerosol or plug-in air fresheners and instead using essential oils or simply opening windows to freshen the air. Besides causing more serious effects like endocrine disruption, “Aerosol sprays and air fresheners can be migraine and asthma triggers,” she says. Also consider adding more plants to your home: They’re natural air detoxifiers.

CARPET CLEANING TIPS TO KEEP YOUR CARPET LOOKING FRESH

Carpet is one of the most popular styles of flooring to have installed in your home. The look and feel of carpet can dramatically improve the appearance of any room in your house, but it is crucial to know how to properly maintain your carpeting.

If carpet is not cleaned regularly, its appearance and lifespan will be on the decline. There are several different common carpet problems that lead to a homeowner requiring professional carpet cleaning services. Here are some things you can keep an eye out for when you are trying to maintain the look of your carpet.

Carpet Indentation – Several different types of carpet material can easily be morphed by the heavy pieces of furniture and large objects that you place on top of it. These indentations will make your carpet look worn and dirty
High Traffic Areas – These are the paths and areas that your family walks on more frequently than the rest of your carpet. You might notice a high traffic area from the door to your room to a couch or another door.
Soiling – The material that your carpet is made out of can often trap dirt and soil deep within the fibers. So deep that a normal vacuum cleaner can have a difficult time removing these spots.
Staining – Stains such as ink stains, wine stains, juice stains, coffee stains and more are just about impossible to remove on your own. Although, you should attempt to wipe them away immediately, you need the assistances of an experienced carpet cleaner.
Odor – Carpet is also known for locking in any type of odor or foul smell.

4 Tips For Keeping Your Carpet Cleaned
Having carpet installed in your home is a smart move. This type of flooring is inexpensive, and it is easily customized to match the interior decor of any home. When you first install carpet in your home, it looks great. However, the trick is properly maintaining your carpet to keep it looking this fresh. There are four main things you can do to keep your carpet clean and attractive looking.

Vacuum Daily
Vacuuming is not a difficult task, and it is something you can do on a daily basis to ensure that your carpet is clean. Even if your carpet looks clean on the surface, you should still run your vacuum over it once a day. Dirt, soil and other particles can sink deep within your carpet’s fibers. You might not see them, but they will affect the look and the coloring of your carpet.

Clean Spots and Spills Immediately
Most of the time, accidents are unavoidable. No matter how good of care you provide for you carpet, sooner or later, something is going to be spilled or dropped on it. When this happens, you should take action immediately.

When spilt items and stains are allowed to soak into the fibers of your carpet, they may never come out. Some of the most popular carpet stains include:

Wine Stains
Ink Stains
Juice Stains
Coffee Stains
Food Stains

As a responsible carpet-owner, you should always have spot remover and professional cleaning supplies on hand. When you make these products available to yourself and your family, it can improve the look of your carpet.

Deodorize the Carpet Regularly
Since carpet can hold a lot of dirt and dust particles deep within it, it is significant that your carpet be deodorize regularly. Although it does not have to be done daily like vacuuming, deodorize needs to be a part of the regular carpet maintenance.

The carpet in your home is made out of a specific fiber. However, all fibers trap in smells. This is true even if your carpet is vacuumed and cleaned regularly. Specialized deodorizing products are available, and they work to keep a carpet smelling clean.

Call a Professional Carpet Cleaning Company
Since your home is such a high traffic area, you are constantly having people walk on your carpet. These people bring with them dirty, dust and soil from outside. These items get lodged into your carpet fibers, and basic home cleaning methods will not remove them or clean your carpet.

Only a professional carpet cleaning company will have the equipment and tools to clean your carpet down to the core. This will not only improve the appearance of the carpet, but it can improve the health of you and your family. Removing dirt, dust and other contaminants from the carpet improves the quality of air around your home. It is recommended that a carpet be cleaned once every 12 to 18 months.

4 Ways Duct Cleaning Can Improve Your Air Quality and Improve Your A/C System

4 Ways Duct Cleaning Can Improve Your Air Quality and Improve Your A/C System
Your air ducts are a vital part of your ac cleaning, although they often are neglected. Most people don’t realize the problems with air quality that dirty ductwork can cause in their Milton, Florida, home until the problem becomes detrimental to their health. Having your ducts professionally cleaned helps to not only improve the efficiency of your machine but the air quality in your home, as well. Some of the best benefits of air duct cleaning include:

Reduction of Allergens in the Air
Dirt, debris, pollen, and pet dander can circulate through the air in your home and make their way into the ductwork and components of your ac cleaning. Having your ductwork professionally cleaned can remove the buildup of this dirt and debris and prevent it from continuing to come out of the vents and recirculate through your home. This can help reduce allergy symptoms for those living in the house as well as those who are visiting.

Improvements to the Efficiency of Your AC System
Your air conditioning system will work most efficiently when it’s clean and free of debris. When dirt, dust, and other particles build up in your home’s ductwork, they will continue to circulate throughout the system, ending up getting dirt into other parts of your ac cleaning. Duct cleaning is a vital part of air conditioning maintenance, as it will prevent the other parts of your system from becoming dirty again because of dirt and debris running through your vents and ducts.

Fewer AC Repairs Due to Clogging
As mentioned above, allowing pet dander, dirt, and grime to travel through your air conditioning system can cause the various areas and parts of your system to become clogged with debris. This can also cause your filter to become dirty quicker than normal and cause other clogging issues through the vents and even in the motorized parts of your system. When clogging occurs, your system may not only break down and need repair but can also become dangerous as it tries to work to push the air through the clogged parts of the system.

Keeping Your Air System Rodent-Free
Rodents make their way into homes, looking for a comfortable place to stay and a consistent food source. Popular living and breeding areas in your home are attics and basements, which can allow them access to your air systems and ventilation. Even if you have rectified a rodent problem, there is a good chance the rodents left behind some of their living conditions, fecal matter, or urine in your duct system. These items can be dangerous to your health, especially when circulated into your air supply. Duct cleaning can remove leftover debris from rodents and inform you whether the debris has made its way into your system.

Signs That It Might Be Time to Schedule Duct Cleaning Service
If you don’t have a regular maintenance agreement in which your ductwork is checked, you may find yourself asking what signs you should look for to determine if you need duct cleaning. If your system is a few years old and you’ve never had your ducts cleaned, it’s probably a good time to get them checked. Otherwise, look for the following signs that you should call your HVAC specialist right away.

You notice dirt around the outer edges of your vents. This can mean that dirt and dust are blowing out of your ductwork and into the air of your home.
You notice a decrease in the airflow coming out of your vents. This decrease could mean your ducts have become severely clogged or you have leaky ductwork somewhere along the path.
You are noticing problems with the quality of the air in your home, such as itchy and watery eyes, stuffiness, or overactive allergies. It’s important to remember that air recirculates throughout your home constantly. If your ductwork contains allergy-inducing debris, the debris will stay in the air in your home and continue to build up.
If you’re noticing some of these signs or would like more information on how cleaning your ductwork can help improve your home’s air quality and the efficiency of your system, our HVAC technicians can help.

Maid Service

If you are considering hiring a maid service, there are many pros and cons that you should be aware of. Pros include reliability and free time. Cost is often considered the biggest con, and you may also be dissatisfied with the level of cleaning provided.

Having a professional maid service in your home can allow you to enjoy a clean living environment without having to do any of the work. You may think this type of service is too expensive for your income, but you might be surprised by the low prices that some companies charge. Many people choose to hire someone to clean their homes because they never have time to do the household chores themselves. If you have children who keep you busy with sports, school events, and other activities, you may find yourself struggling to fit simple cleaning jobs into your schedule. This may also be the case if you work two jobs or long hours at one job. Even if you simply have a very active social life and you like to go out to concerts and other events regularly, you might be too busy to clean.

As you can see, there are many different reasons why you might consider hiring a maid service. If you have never hired a maid before, you may be wondering what the pros and cons are for such a service. One of the biggest pros is reliability and peace of mind. There are many large and small companies that provide maids and other occasional cleaning services. It is easy to find a reliable company by doing a little research. You can ask the companies you are interested in for customer reviews, or you can rely on your own friends and family for a referral. When you find a good company, you can rely on the maid you have hired to consistently clean your home and meet your specific requirements.

Another advantage is the amount of free time you will have. If you have a hectic schedule, this free time you previously to spent cleaning may become your only relaxation time. Some people spend every weekend cleaning the house because they do not have time for it throughout the week. Weekends should be your time to have fun or relax-not time for neglected chores. One of the biggest benefits of a maid service is the expert training and equipment that many companies provide. The maids often undergo extensive training programs to ensure they know how to safely operate equipment and handle cleaning chemicals. Many homeowners do not know how to safely and properly use cleaning products, but maids are trained cleaning professionals. The level of professionalism you can expect from a reputable company is another benefit of hiring a maid.

Many people would consider cost to be the biggest disadvantage of hiring a maid service. While some companies do charge a pretty high hourly rate, other companies offer more competitive pricing. If you are searching for a bargain, remember that a low price can sometimes equal low quality of work. Another con to think about is that the maid you hire may not clean as thoroughly as you might expect. In addition, some large companies may even send a different maid to your home each time, which could cause the cleaning results to vary. Unless you hire a company that promises a certain level of deep cleaning, your expectations may be too high. The best way to avoid this is to communicate in detail with the maid you hire about what specific cleaning tasks you want him or her to perform. Since many companies charge hourly rates

floor cleaning

Reasons for cleaning floors service
The principal reasons for floor cleaning are:

To prevent injuries due to tripping or slipping. Injuries due to slips and trips on level floors are a major cause of accidental injury or death. Bad practice in floor cleaning services is itself a major cause of accidents.
To beautify the floor.
To remove stains, dirt, litter and obstructions.
To remove grit and sand which scratch and wear down the surface.
To remove allergens, in particular dust.
To prevent wear to the surface (e.g. by using a floor wax or protective sealant).
To make the environment sanitary (e.g. in kitchens).
To maintain an optimum traction (e.g. for dance floors).
Methods of floor cleaning
The treatment needed for different types of floors is very different.

Slipping is a common safety hazard for abu dhabi floor cleaning methods that involve water or other liquids, especially if the floor is left wet.

Sawdust is used on some floors to absorb any liquids that fall rather than trying to prevent them being spilt. The sawdust is swept up and replaced each day. This was common in the past in pubs and is still used in some butchers and fishmongers.

It used to be common to use tea leaves to collect dirt from carpets and remove odors.
There are also a wide variety of dubai floor cleaning machines available today such as floor buffers, automatic floor scrubbers and sweepers, and carpet extractors that can deep clean almost any type of hard floor or carpeted flooring surface in much less time than it would take using a traditional cleaning sharjah floor cleaning method.

Wood flooring
Different types of wood flooring may require completely different care depending on whether they are waxed, oiled or have a polyurethane coating. It is important to determine the type of finish of a wood floor and always treat it in the proper manner, for instance it is difficult to clear wood floor wax from a floor coated with polyurethane. Simple al ain floor cleaning instructions

Clear the floor of any furniture that is easy to move.
Sweep or vacuum all loose dirt and debris.
Mop the floor, going along with the grain. For a polyurethane coated floor, dampen a mop with water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Be sure to ring out the mop thoroughly before using it on the floor. Run the mop back and forth, going with the grain of the wood in smooth strokes. Do not use water for lacquered or shellacked floors, as it can stain the wood and cause buckling.
Buff the floor with a soft cloth to remove any soapy residue. Cloth diapers work well for buffing since they are very soft and absorbent.
Tile and stone
Tile and stone flooring is common in kitchens, stairs, and bathrooms. Its cleaning process can be divided into three steps:

Dirt or dust should first be removed with a vacuum cleaner or a broom.
Have a floor cleaning solution or spray bottle for the appropriate floor. If you are cleaning stone floors (marble, granite, travertine, etc.), make sure the cleaning agent states that it is for stones. An acidic tile cleaning solution can be used on ceramic and porcelain floors
After spraying the tile or stone floors in a small area, use a mop to clean and scrub floors.then wipe it with dry cloth.
Vinyl composite tile
Vinyl composite tile or VCT is a common commercial floor type. Cleaning this type of floor is done with either a mop and bucket or with a floor scrubber. VCT requires a polymer coating or floor finish to protect it. This needs to be kept clean with dust mopping and wet cleaning (i.e. wet mopping or floor scrubber).

Reducing the need for cleaning
A well-maintained entrance matting can dramatically reduce the need for cleaning. For public and office buildings about 80 to 90% of the dirt is tracked in from outside. Installing a total of 15 feet of matting consisting of both indoor and outdoor sections will remove about 80% of this. Thus about two-thirds of the dirt can be removed at the entrance

What is the meaning of cleaning service?

cleaning service relate to commercial property cleaning, including professional offices, educational, medical and industrial business cleaning. Some commercial abu dhabi cleaning service can include maintenance or property management services. Those who perform the work are referred to as custodians, janitors or cleaners.

When it’s time to hire commercial cleaners, it is important to know about the different types of professional cleaning services available.

dubai cleaning service versus Commercial Cleaning Services
Housekeeping refers to consumer home cleaning services. They are primarily residential maid services and typically do not clean commercial properties of any sort.

Commercial cleaning, on the other hand, specializes in providing AL ain cleaning service for business properties in a variety of industries. Certain commercial cleaning services can further specialize in specific industries or in the types of services offered.

What Type of Professional Cleaning Services Do You Need?
What types of services are you needing from your janitorial service company?
What type of property is needing the professional cleaning service?
How often are you needing custodial services?

These questions help determine what type of office cleaning and maintenance service you will be looking for. Some companies specialize in certain business types, such as healthcare or medical office cleaning, while others only do pre and post construction cleans. Some janitorial service providers only focus on cleaning and sanitation, while others offer a full range of property managed services. Finally, some professional cleaning companies will offer one time cleans, while others provide an on-going program for regular maintenance.

By knowing exactly what you are wanting to have managed, the type of building (including mixed use), and the frequency, you will be more easily able to narrow down the right janitorial service provider.

Types of Building Maintenance Services
Standard commercial cleaning companies provide cleaning of carpets and floors, restroom sanitation, dusting, wiping of desks, walls and switch plates, kitchen/break room cleaning, trash removal and window cleaning. Further, sharjah cleaning service can include industry specific and expanded service cleaning for education facilities, healthcare or medical cleaning, or industrial cleaning.

Education Facility Cleaning Services
Whether a childcare center or university, it is important to have a safe learning environment free of sanitation concerns. Commercial spaces equate to lots of hands on door knobs, lots of shoes tracking in dirt and the potential for significant bacteria. Professional cleaning service use state of the art cleaning techniques and health conscious products to sanitize the learning spaces for our students and educational staff.

Medical and Healthcare Cleaning Services

Special training is required for cleaning service who provide cleaning services to health and medical offices.

Industrial Cleaning Services

Changing bed linens and making the beds.

Washing, folding and ironing clothes.

Cleaning interior windows.

Removing garbage and recycling.

Restocking personal items such as toilet paper, tissues, etc.

General tidying up of the rooms. This includes putting away toys, decluttering and light organizing.

Running errands for the family. This can include things like grocery shopping or dropping off dry cleaning and mail. Make sure that you go over this item with your housekeeper and provide her with some method of payment. Not all maid services will be willing to perform this duty, so have it in your listing and address it in your interviews.

Preparing meals for the family. If this is something you want your maids services to do, make sure to specify this on your listing as some maid services may not provide this service. Discuss their level of comfort in the kitchen during your interviews and make sure you get an idea of what kinds of meals they make.

Keeping track of cleaning supplies and letting you know when they are low and need to be replaced.

Duties you should not expect maids services to perform
There are some duties you should not expect from a housekeeper, including anything that puts them in physical danger or is not in their area of expertise. Here are a few examples of duties you can’t expect your maids services to perform:

Deep cleaning or outdoor window washing. You’ll want to hire a specialized cleaning service to come in and handle that sort of job. Do not expect your housekeeper to climb on anything higher than a stepstool. She may be willing to take on a seasonal deep cleaning job, but you would be expected to pay an additional fee if so.

Child care. If you need someone to take care of your children in addition to general housekeeping, you will want to look for a nanny who also takes on light housekeeping duties.

Cleaning up human waste. Exposure to human waste can be dangerous, so you should call in a waste removal service for that sort of job.

Lifting heavy objects or move furniture. As a general rule, Dubai Maid Services will not move anything heavier than a 35-pound object. This is a safety issue and you should look for someone specialized to help you do jobs that require that type of physical strength.

How much you will pay for a Dubai Maid Service
There is no one-size-fits-all formula for how much a Maid Service will cost. How much you will pay can vary greatly depending upon the Maid Service’s experience level, your location (it will cost you more in big cities, less in more rural areas), the size of your home and how many people (and pets) live in the home. But, generally speaking, a Maid Service will charge less than a home cleaner.

Where a Maid Service can cost anywhere from $15 to $40 an hour, a house cleaner will be more pricey, charging $25 to $65 per cleaner, per hour. It may be possible to come up with a flat fee that you pay your Maid Service each week, but that will be based initially upon how many hours it takes to finish the job. During the interview process, make sure you discuss payment methods with the candidates. Most Maid Services are self-employed and will not take credit cards. Some may prefer cash to checks. Make sure that you are aware of their preference and that it matches with what you are comfortable doing.

Hiring a Maid Service doesn’t have to be an overwhelming process as long as you understand the general duties that a Maid Service performs. Be as clear as possible in your job description and make sure to cover anything out of the ordinary or things that are really important to you during the job interviews. Communicating your needs clearly with the applicants is the best way to ensure that you find the perfect Maid Service for your family.

Why Should You Hire a House Cleaning Company?

Why Should You Hire a House Cleaning Company?

Cleaning the house is a part of homeowner maintenance. It is simply a fact of life that dishes must be done, clothes must be washed, dirt must be vacuumed off the floor and so on. No one really enjoys the chore, but it cannot go unattended for too long. While everyone can agree that house cleaning has to be performed and yet no one really enjoys it, still people are hesitant to consider a house cleaning company.

This occurs for several reasons; people have misgivings about strangers in their home, they don’t want people handling their personal belongings, they don’t feel they can justify the expense and they’re worried about damage to their personal belongings. So, begrudgingly, we all just continue to carve out precious time from our already limited schedules to make sure the house is livable.

Professional House Cleaners Put Your Fears at Ease

While most of the objections for having someone clean your house are valid, they don’t really apply to a professional house cleaning company. A professional company, unlike most individuals, will be licensed by the state as well as bonded and insured. This means in the unlikely event something IS damaged, it is covered. Furthermore, a company brings with it qualified, trust-worthy and dependable house cleaners that have been screened.

Doing a good job is necessary and essential for a house cleaning company to stay in business, so they are extremely thorough when it comes to hiring. They also offer training, so the team that cleans your home will have specialized knowledge on the fastest and most effective way to get your home as clean as possible.

Get a Professional Shine

This brings me to the next important point to make about professional house cleaning companies; they know what they are doing. I am not suggesting that you don’t know how to clean a house. However, every profession, no matter how simple or mundane it may seem, has more efficient ways of being performed when done by trained individuals. These house cleaners know the cleaning products that work, the proper methods that get the deepest clean and can do it all extremely fast.

Aside from knowing all the tricks of the trade that make cleaning more efficient, cleaning companies also work in teams, so multiple people will be working to get your home spotless. This ensures everything gets done in a timely fashion. More people equals more hands scrubbing, more eyes checking to make sure there is no dirt and more effective and efficient use of time.

Steal Some of Your Life Back

The biggest benefit to having a cleaning company clean your house is the time it gives you back. Most people have a hectic schedule divided between work, family obligations and other responsibilities. After all of that, who really wants to spend their free time cleaning the house? When you hire a team of professionals to clean your home you get that time back.

What will you do with your time? Whatever you want. Spend it with the kids. Go to the movies or the park or any number of wonderful things you enjoy. Hiring a house cleaner is also a great gift for the person in the house that typically takes on the cleaning. Surprise them with a day off and you’ll be the hero. Buying back just a little bit of precious time; that is what makes hiring a house cleaner truly worth it.

Organize and Clear the Clutter

One of the biggest parts of spring cleaning is getting rid of clutter that you don’t need. Keep Cleaning Products to a Minimum

The cleaning aisles of our stores are stocked full of commercial products to help you clean, but the variety can be overwhelming. And dozens of cleaning products means dozens of cleaning products to clutter up your cabinets and closets.

Resist the temptation to buy all these cleaning supplies; the real champions of spring cleaning are more basic supplies, such as a good all-purpose cleaner and microfiber cloths. There are even homemade cleaners you can make that will save you money while protecting the environment.

Establish New Cleaning Habits

A good, thorough spring cleaning that includes the whole house is a great time to establish new on-going cleaning habits, and it can also make the next spring cleaning a good deal easier. Simple 15-minute cleanup routines practiced every few days, each including a series of 1- to 2-minute chores, can make it remarkably easy to keep your home clean and tidy all year
