Best carpet shampoo machine

Bissell PowerLifter PowerBrush
The Bissell PowerLifter PowerBrush carpet cleaner offers relatively quiet operation.

Quiet for a carpet cleaner isn’t necessarily quiet, but the PowerBrush was still less noisy than most, reaching just 80 decibels – close to the noise level of city traffic. There were competitors that produced more than 90 decibels – about the noise level of a lawnmower.

The PowerBrush was only average for stain removal and it lacked any additional accessories to help clean things like upholstery and stairs; however, it was one of the more budget-friendly options. It’s also relatively compact and easy to move around, which can be helpful for awkward jobs. Bulkier machines get hard to drag around after a while.
Hoover Smartwash Automatic

The Hoover Smartwash Automatic is a carpet cleaner designed for ease of use. Despite being on the heavier side for a carpet cleaner, this machine was easy to control and almost glided across the carpet. Its ease of use is aided by the fact that it is self propelling, taking a lot of the strain and effort out of carpet cleaning – making it an ideal model for people who struggle with lifting heavy objects. This combined with the large tank also makes it ideal for large scale carpet cleaning.

The water and detergent loading system is simple and easy to use. The triggerless design makes using this carpet cleaner as easy and natural as vacuuming. It is equipped with sensors for an automatic soap dispensing system, that deploys more soap in areas that are heavily stained. However, we experienced mixed results with this system, and it needed to be over-rode often to ensure it was drying the carpet.

The Hoover Smartwash Automatic is also the best carpet cleaner for removing stains from carpets. The downside is that its powerful, deep cleaning action leaves carpets wetter than other models, meaning the carpet takes a lot longer to dry.

How a carpet cleaner works

Carpet cleaners work by spraying a solution of detergent and warm water into the carpet to loosen dirt, and wash away stains. Most machines have two separate tanks, one for clean water to wash the carpet and a second tank to suck the dirty water from the carpet. A lot like a standard vacuum cleaner carpet cleaner has brushes. The brush design of the carpet cleaner is the most important factor in determining the effectiveness of the carpet clean. Some of these brushes are static on a brush bar, while others are motor-powered and will rotate or move side to side. Our tests demonstrated that the powered brushes provide a deeper clean than static brushes.

What kind of carpet cleaner do I need?

There is confusion over the difference between carpet cleaners and steam cleaners. Steam cleaners and carpet cleaners operate differently and clean in different ways. There are a few different styles of carpet cleaners to consider:

Best carpet cleaner testing

Shampoo Cleaners: Most of the cleaners feature in this review are shampoo based cleaners. These cleaners used heated water and soap to clean old and worn carpets, and treat them chemically to bright them up a little. They are generally a surface level clean and do little to remove the bottom layers of dirt.
Steam Cleaners: Steam cleaners operate on a different principle to carpet cleaners, and are not limited to cleaning carpets alone. They heat water into steam to create pressure and release jets of steam that penetrate deeper than a carpet cleaner, shaking loose the underlying dirt. They generally don’t use chemicals to bright up or treat carpet, just remove dirt. This means they don’t give carpets a nice new sheen. There are less models available to buy, and they have smaller tanks due to pressure creating mechanics.
Spot Cleaners: Spot cleaners are smaller, handheld versions of a full sized shampoo carpet cleaner. These small machines don’t offer the same level of deep cleaning or whole carpet cleans as a full sized model but they are great for cleaning up after puppies or kids on a daily basis. They are also fantastic for sprucing up the upholstery in a car with the right attachments.
Multi-Surface Cleaners: Multi-Surface cleaners are not as dedicated as a shampoo carpet cleaner for washing carpets. However, these multi-surface cleaners can be used more regularly, across a range of sealed hard surfaces in addition to carpets while doing the vacuuming. They are just not as good for giving a carpet a bright, new lease of life as a shampoo based carpet cleaner.
How often should you clean your carpet?

How often you clean your carpets depends on the household. For a household that has low wear on the carpets we recommend that you clean your carpets every six months or so. Shampooing your carpet wears down the fibres and so frequent washing can attract more dirt. For households with high wear on the carpets, due to children or pets, clean the carpet every three or four months. Don’t clean your carpets every day or even every week unless you really have to. Cleaning carpets so regularly may lead to carpet damage or increase the chances of mold because the carpet doesn’t get a chance to dry out completely.

It can be easy to put off cleaning your carpets. You may have to wait for hours to let the technician in your home and even longer for your carpets to dry. This is especially a pain if you have children or pets who may trample wet carpet.

Chem-Dry is a carpet cleaning service with fast dry times and a short service window. You should be able to return from work and school to a clean carpet without any scheduling problems. Chem-Dry’s drying times are quick, typically taking about two hours after cleaning. Some cleaning services require a full day of drying to clean your carpets properly.

Part of Chem-Dry’s cleaning arsenal is the hot carbonating extraction system. This system uses hot carbonated water to lift soils from your carpet rather than soaps and detergents. Traditional cleaning materials require more rinsing than necessary, contributing to longer drying times. Chem-Dry uses certified green products with lower pH levels, making it safer for kids and pets. In addition to its environmentally friendly materials, the carbonated system requires 80 percent less water.

Prices will vary depending on where you live, but this carpet cleaning service is available in more than 30 states. Other price factors include the carpet weight in your home and the amount of carpet you need clean. However, we estimate Chem-Dry’s services cost around $164 for a three-room cleaning. At minimum, you can expect to pay at least $95 for any cleaning job in your home. In our research, we found Chem-Dry charges about 38 cents per square foot in your home. The prices we gathered were for a three-bedroom home in Los Angeles County.

We were quoted a higher-than-average price, but Chem-Dry can assist you and your business with maintenance cleaning, putting your business on a regular cleaning schedule. Rugs and upholstery are also easy targets for Chem-Dry. This is especially useful if you run a clinic or hotel. Any kind of high traffic area will need deep and frequent cleaning.

This carpet cleaning company earned a 95 percent customer service score. One of its best features is the short service window. A common complaint about any service is the mystery that comes with the scheduling window. You may have to wait hours at home for a technician or take a day from work entirely. Chem-Dry generally schedules appointments within two-hour windows, so you’ll know when to expect a technician.

Making an appointment or getting a quote from the company is easy. You can get free price quotes through phone, email or by filling out an online form.

In our research, we found that Chem-Dry is more expensive than most carpet cleaning services. However, this service is time efficient and uses environmentally friendly cleaning methods. You can expect to wait at most two hours for a technician to arrive and two hours for your carpet to dry when you use this service.

Professional carpet cleaning services
COIT
COIT, which has been in business since 1950, uses a truck-mounted system that focuses on thorough cleaning that will not only remove dirt, but also clear away allergens and dust mites, and this firm pays close attention to high-traffic areas. Unlike some carpet cleaning services, COIT will move furniture, then inspect it before cleaning and handle any stained areas before starting its general cleaning. You also can get carpet deodorizer, a stain-resistant coating and carpet repair help, and you can choose green cleaning options. COIT also provides an extensive range of other cleaning services including furniture, wood floors, draperies, tile and grout, air ducts, many types of stone surfaces, water damage emergencies, and restoration help for fire and smoke damage, mold and more.

One reason COIT stands out is that it gives you one of the best customer satisfaction guarantees in the business. If any of its cleaning work does not meet your “complete satisfaction,” the company pledges on its website to “re-clean, refund, repair and rectify the problem until you are satisfied.” One weak spot with COIT is its unimpressive number of certifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI). Competitors had more certified branches.
USA Clean Master
USA Clean Master, which was founded in 2005, is a professional and budget-friendly company that offers clean carpets for less than 25 cents per square foot. This company also requires a very small minimum order, which is a budgetary bonus. USA Clean Master prides itself on using only green cleaning products made in the United States to avoid any harmful materials. This firm also trains its employees at its national headquarters, conducting a two-month training course and full background check. In addition to carpeting, USA Clean Master can help you with such things as mattress cleaning, water and fire damage, mold remediation, polishing marble floors, cleaning, repairing chimneys and other tasks.

This company had fewer branches that were certified by the IICRC and CRI than any other outfit we compared. That is not the only way to evaluate quality, of course, but both of those institutions are committed to quality and it offers some peace of mind to see the certifications. USA Clean Master also is not as widely available. They offer a decent value so if they are in your state, it is worth checking them out.
Stanley Steemer
Stanley Steemer, which began in 1947, also employs a truck-mounted cleaning system and states that it removes an average of 94 percent of allergens from carpeting. The company has earned certification by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America in three areas: carpet cleaning, tile and grout cleaning and hardwood cleaning. This company does not clean soiled curtains or window blinds, but can handle numerous other cleaning tasks including upholstery, natural stone, air ducts and more. This company also provides emergency water restoration. You can get green cleaning options with Stanley Steemer, as well as purchase its products like a spray bottle of spot remover, brushes or a broom for cleaning in between professional help.

One drawback with Stanley Steemer is the longer estimated drying times. The website lists double the drying time that other services do. They were also above more expensive when we compared our estimates.

best carpet shampoo for machines

Many don’t take the time to use real carpet cleaning equipment until they absolutely have to. You’ve got a dirty carpet. Regular vacuuming hasn’t picked up everything. Spot cleaning still left some marks. Even the shampoo-in rug cleaner in the canister that you scrubbed in for hours still left the rugs dinghy and gray. It’s time for a real cleaning .

Which Carpet Cleaning Equipment Works Best ?

One type of cleaning equipment well known to many consumers because they’re available for rental from your local grocery store are steam cleaners. The ones rented from the stores work okay but, because the water they use is only as hot as you can get from your tap, the ability to really remove oily, greasy stains may be limited. Consider buying your own. One with a 12 amp motor for sucking up the water quickly and efficiently is best .

Professionals will also have models equipped with heaters that are able to get the water much hotter than tap water. They also know which cleaning agents work best with which type of carpet, and how to best treat difficult stains .

Another type of carpet cleaning equipment is the rotating brush cleaner. These machines scrub all the fibers through the use of one or several rotating brushes, beating the dirt out of the carpet as they go along. People that prefer these cleaners over steam equipment say that just shooting hot water at a stain doesn’t guarantee you’ll get everything up. The rotating types, they maintain, get deeper into the pile itself, loosening dirt and grime that hot, detergent-filled water and its wet vac equipment may miss.

What Type of Cleaner for What Type of Carpet?

Another thing to consider when choosing the type of carpet cleaning equipment is best for you is to consider the type of carpeting you have .

Long-pile, shag carpeting will likely be cleaned better by a steam model, as there is so much more pile on the surface that needs to be covered for optimum cleaning.
If you’ve got the shorter pile carpeting, rotary cleaners that reach deep into the base of the carpet to loosen dirt and grime may be best .
If your carpeting is treated with stain-resistant chemicals, you’ll want to use cleaning products that are specifically made for that type of carpet. And remember, even stain-resistant carpeting loses that resistance over time and requires just as much attention to detail in cleaning as any other carpet .
In general, your carpet should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months, more if your house gets a lot of traffic from people and/or pets. Every carpet collects oily, sticky soil from cooking vapors, tracked in dirt and air pollution that the average vacuum cleaner can’t get out. If these stay in your carpet for an extended period of time, they can even start grabbing and holding onto loose dirt, as well. Investing in the best carpet cleaning equipment for your particular needs is key .

cheap shampooer

Most people who live in Singapore must embrace themselves to living in small apartments. Due to the limited space available, most homeowners will compensate this by being stylish and ensuring that they are as comfortable as possible. This explains why you will not miss a carpet in most of these households. A carpet provides a soft surface for you to walk on which makes it comfortable for you to walk even on barefoot.

If the right designs and colours of carpet are chosen to match furniture and other accessories in the house, they help to improve house décor. If you have a small space in the house, using a light coloured will be a good choice as it will give the impression of continuous width and length. However, when you buy a carpet, you must know that it will soil with time and therefore it will need cleaning.

There are several options available when it comes to carpet cleaning. The choice of the method to use will be determined by the amount of dirt to be removed. If you are dealing with a simple spill, deep a piece of clothing in a cleaning solution and blot that specific area. If you want to remove soils and dust, vacuuming regularly will do it fine. However, after using your carpet for quite some time, you will need to clean it thoroughly. This can be done either by steam cleaning or carpet shampooing. But do you know that there are some hidden harmful effects of carpet shampooing?

· Environmental pollution
There are many chemicals that are used in the manufacture of carpet cleaning shampoos. Most of these chemicals have not been tested for safety and therefore when you use them, you expose yourself to unknown risks. It is also important to note that most of these chemicals are non-biodegradable and therefore they may end up polluting rivers and streams. Most of them will not breakdown even when flowing on the river and could accidentally get into the food chain through being eaten by aquatic animals or absorbed by plants. At the end of the day, these chemicals are likely to end up in our body systems.

· Short term health effects
There are some chemicals used in carpet cleaning shampoos that have acute toxicity characteristics. For example ammonium hydroxide used in shampoos will produce fumes that will irritate eyes, throat, lungs and nose. Such a chemical will greatly affect people with prior lung, asthma or heart conditions.

· Long term health effects
There are some chemicals used in carpet cleaning shampoos that have low toxicity but may have long term health effects e.g. cancer. A good example of such a chemical is perchlorethylene. It can lead to cancer, liver damage, nervous system damage as well as kidney damages.

· Hormonal disruptions
There are some chemicals used in shampoos that may interfere with the natural chemical messages in the body either by blocking the hormones or imitating their actions. This could lead to conditions such as hypospadias, undescended testicles and a reduction in sperm count.

· Increased carpet wearing out
Although most modern carpets are made of tough synthetic materials that resist wearing out after shampooing, there are still those that are affected by regular cleaning and shampooing. It happens that the more you shampoo the more it is likely that you will reduce its lifespan. However to reduce this risk, you are advised to buy carpets made of synthetic materials such as polypropylene.

· Indoor air quality
Whenever a carpet is shampooed, there s likelihood that there will be chemical residues left chemically unchanged on the surface of the carpet. Although most of these residues are harmless, there are those that could affect your health either in the short term or in the long run. With time, these residues will become airborne and this means that they will be inhaled by the people living in the house. This could be a problem to people who are allergic, asthmatic or sensitive people.

· Increased dust build-up
Many people have observed that after shampooing your carpet, it re-soils rapidly. This means that after doing the first shampooing; you will be forced to be shampooing your carpet often to ensure that it is clean. Too much shampooing over a short period of time will affect the carpet quality where it may shrink, loose its original colour and also wear out rapidly.

Carpet shampooing is an important procedure that ensures that the carpets are clean and hence they serve their purpose in the right manner. It is important to understand the chemical composition of the shampoo you use to ensure that your health and the life of your carpets are not adversely affected.

Carpet Cleaning Tips and Tricks

As much as we would like out carpets to remain clean 24/7, it is practically impossible. Despite all the efforts in keeping it clean, dirt will eventually come for different reasons -maybe from stepping on it, spilling and staining. It is the reason a carpet requires to be cleaned regularly to maintain their look. It is a fact that a clean carpet adds value and authenticity to your home or office. But how clean your carpet is equally important- you should apply some of the most effects cleaning methods. Here are 10 of the best Carpet cleaning tips and tricks you can use.

• Vacuum regularly
Every time you step on the carpet, you leave some dirt behind. Since it is not possible to deep clean you carpet regularly, you need to have a way through which you can be removing this dirt regularly to keep it looking nice. This is where regular vacuuming is recommended. A vacuum cleaner will pick dust and debris thus keeping your carpet looking good always. The frequency at which you vacuum will be dictated by how much the carpet is used. If you are a bachelor, doing it a week will enough. If you have a large family and pets, do it at least thrice a week.

• Deal with spills immediately
Be very careful with spills. It is easy for them to become stains if they are not treated immediately. The secret to keeping your carpet clean for a longer time is dealing with any spill straight away. The best way to deal with them is soaking it with a dry sheet or using the carpet cleaner before it soaks in. You must also be wary of how clean it. The worst that you can do to your carpet is trying to rub off the spill. This will drive it further into the carpet making it hard to clean and may result into a stain.

• Use the right solution
Use of the wrong solution is a common mistake in carpet cleaning. For the carpet to be cleaned properly, the right solutions must be employed. In many cases, the manufacturer will recommend the right solution to be used. Most of the suggested solutions are manufactured specifically for those carpets. Most people will be tempted to go for cheaper solutions that are poorly manufactured. Others may opt to go for homemade solutions. These solutions are likely to damage the carpet either by fading or tearing it with time. Some may leave behind a foul odor even after rinsing several times.

• Test for solution’s colorfastness first
If it is the first time to clean with a solution, it is important to test its colorfastness first. Some solutions can destroy your carpet mostly by fading its color. You need to check out if the carpet color will be affected by the solution. Start by cleaning small area first and see how the detergent works. You may also use a white towel to rub the carpet to find out if there will be any color on it. If at all there will be even small traces of carpet’s color on the towel, you should avoid using that solution since it will fade the carpet. It is also likely to lower the lifespan of your expensive carpet if used.

• Pre-treat if necessary
If you don’t clean your carpet regularly, pre-treating it before actual cleaning will be required. Sometimes the carpet may be extremely dirty and intensely stained for regular cleaning. Pre-treating helps in soaking the stain and dirty for easy remove. You need to apply the pre-treatment solution on the heavily stained or soiled areas and allow it to soak in for a moment. This will make it easy for the cleaning exercise and save on the cleaning solution used. It is also worth noting that pre-treating reduces wear and tear associated with the vigorous scratching of the carpet on heavily stained areas.

• Blot the stain
Another mistake that people commit while cleaning stains on the carpets is rubbing. Blotting is the best way of dealing with stains. Vigorous rubbing is likely to increase the chances of stain spreading into the surrounding carpet fibers. This will definitely affect the lifespan of your carpet negatively. By blotting, you will be dealing with the stain using an absorbent material without spreading it to other areas of the carpet. The best way of blotting a stain is by working from the outside to the outside of the stain. It makes it impossible for the stain to spread over the carpet.

• Avoid excessive water
Though the use of water is necessary for carpet cleaning, you must be very careful with its quantity. Use as little water as possible or it will extremely hard to dry the carpet. If you are hiring the cleaning equipment, minimize the use of water as much as you can. If the carpet becomes saturated, it will cause pretty horrible odor due to decay and growth of mold. HIf you have carpeting in your home, it is essential that you hire a professional carpet cleaning company to keep your carpet clean, hygienic and smelling fresh. Carpet contains accumulated dust particles, dirt as well as micro organisms such as mites which can potentially lead to heath problems. This write up will highlight the main points to take into account when hiring a carpet cleaning service.

Training and Experience
The first thing you need to determine is the training as well as the expertise of the cleaning company you intend to hire. It is very important to hire only a well trained and experienced carpet cleaning firm. The employees of the company should be trained in everything that has to do with carpet cleaning, including the various methods utilized, types of cleaning liquids, and the best way to clean a specific stain. You should also find out if the cleaning firm keeps their staff up to date on the newest trends and cleaning techniques.

Services
It is also essential that you find out if the carpet cleaning firm offers various services for distinct requirements. This will ensure that you do not pay more than you really need to. A dependable cleaning company often provides various services with regard to the level of soiling and dirt that may be present. Usually, a carpet that needs pet stain removal or with ingrained dirt will require more work than one that only requires a general cleaning. Also, it will help if you can ascertain how efficient they are at getting rid of difficult stains and spots.

You should also determine whether the cleaning company uses the right cleaning solutions and tools for the steam cleaning or deep cleaning process. You can ask the company if the cleaning liquids they use are recommended or approved by the major carpet manufacturers. The use of inappropriate cleaning solutions can potentially cause your carpet to fade or shrink.

Does the company have a website?
A professional carpet cleaning firm is likely to own a website where the details of the services they provide, pictures of past work completed, information about the company, their work ethics as well as testimonials can be found.

The Hiring Process
Visit the company’s website and take a look at their hiring practices. How stringent are their listed prerequisites to become a worker? Look for a company that carries out background checks on their workers.

Guarantee
One other thing you have to determine is if the carpet cleaning company offers guarantee. You should be doubtful of the company’s capabilities if they do not offer any guarantee. If they fail to complete the task to a good standard, the company should be willing to do a re-clean free of charge or give you a one hundred percent money back.
When you are searching for a carpet cleaning company to take care of your carpets, carry out some research and ask questions till you are sure you have found a reliable company that provides great quality services at reasonable prices.

Flip it upside down once every month:

For example, you can use a rotating brush vacuum to clean both the back and front parts of the rug. Hence, choose cleaning equipments depending on the material used to make the rug.

Desist from vacuuming fringes:
This is based on the fact that fringes can easily get sucked into the vacuum cleaners beater bar. Instead, fluffing can conveniently remove any dirt and debris while at the same time retains its original quality.

Choose cleaning reagents carefully:
Rug Cleaning reagents are very different from carpet cleaning reagents. Be sure to check the label before purchasing any cleaning reagent so as to a void purchasing the wrong one. In addition, after cleaning the rug remember to rinse it completely since any shampoo or spotter residue can easily attract and accumulate debris. It is also wise to first test the effect of the selected cleaning product using a white cotton towel so as to avoid distorting some of the rug colours.

Clean up spills immediately:
Spills such as beverage spills are the main cause of stains in rugs. You can either scrape or blot the spillage depending on the type of spillage. If you decide to blot, use a dry clean white cotton towel. Press the towel down towards the spot and turn it over several times until a substantial amount is absorbed. Please note that rubbing the towel on the spot in a circular manner will damage your rug. Instead, you should move it along the straight lines. Other spills such as red wine can be cleaned up using reagents such as Dawn liquid dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Mild detergents plus water can also be used to clean milk spillages.

Eliminate Pet odours:
Most home pets love cuddling and sleeping on rugs especially during the cold season. You can effectively neutralise any odours that may arise from this pet behaviour by mixing 3 parts of water and 1 part of vinegar. In the end, blot using a white 100% woollen towel to remove any remnants.

Finally, it is of paramount importance to ensure that you dry the rug completely in open air so as to avoid creating a dump environment inside the house. Note that if your rug has high moisture content, it can attract disease causing organisms such as fungi.

vacuum cleaner and carpet washer in one

If your home has carpet or rugs, you know how hard it can be to keep a carpet looking clean and stain free. Many people consider a vacuum cleaner a must-have for their home, but what about a carpet cleaner?

Depending on how much traffic your carpet gets, it could start looking dingy, and you may need more help than a traditional vacuum cleaner will give you.

Vacuum Cleaners

Your vacuum cleaner removes a lot of dirt, dust, hair, and loose debris from your carpets via suction.

However, your vacuum is limited to cleaning the surface of your carpet. It simply isn’t powerful enough to get down to your carpet’s base and strip away all of the ground or set-in stains. Almost every home has a vacuum, and they’re great for quick once-overs and cleaning up surface stains.

How often you’ll vacuum your home depends on how much traffic goes through it. For example, someone who lives alone and who don’t have any pets may only need to vacuum twice a month. However, someone who has pets, kids, or many people in a home may need to vacuum once or twice a week.

PROS

  • Lightweight – Easy to Store
  • Ease of Use
  • Removes Surface Dirt, Dust, Hair, and Debris

CONS

  • Can’t Remove Stains
  • Only Cleans Surface Dirt

Carpet Cleaners

Another less widely used tool for cleaning your carpets is the carpet cleaner. This item tends to be bulkier than your vacuum cleaner, but it also works to clean your carpet down to its base.

Your carpet cleaner uses water, shampoo, and scrubbing brush heads to get down to the base of your carpet and shake the trapped dirt loose, and then it extracts the dirty water and most of the dirt back out. You dump the dirty water down the drain, rinse the tank, refill the water and shampoo, and repeat.

Again, how often you scrub your carpets with a carpet cleaner will depend on the amount of traffic the carpet sees. If your carpet isn’t prone to getting stained or looking dingy, you may only use your carpet cleaner once every six months.

If the carpet gets stained quickly or if there is a lot of traffic, you may scrub your carpet three or four times a year.

PROS

  • Scrubs Every Section of Your Carpet
  • Uses Hot Water and Shampoo for a Deep Clean
  • Extracts Most of the Water Out

CONS

  • Heavier, More Bulky Design
  • Leaves Your Carpet Damp
  • Reasons to Use Both

To keep your carpets looking their best, you will want to eventually use both machines. Your vacuum will obviously see more use than your carpet cleaner, but your vacuum has limits. Also, it can be beneficial to vacuum your carpets before you scrub them.

If you’re going to scrub your carpets, vacuum them first. This will lift out any surface dust, dirt, or hair. It can also get rid of small debris or parts that may clog your scrubber. Additionally, it’ll also help to loosen up your carpet fibres so the carpet scrubber can really get down to the base of the fibres.

It is also a good idea to pretreat either your whole carpet or any spots or high traffic areas. You can purchase carpet pretreatment cleaners, and you usually just apply a thin layer to the problem area. Some require the solution to sit for a few minutes, and others require you to scrub it in lightly, so make sure to read the instructions.

Alternatives

If you don’t want to scrub your entire carpets, you can also purchase a smaller spot clean carpet scrubber or a carpet steamer. A spot cleaner is just that, a smaller version of a carpet scrubber that uses brush heads and scrubbing to get any spots or stains out of your carpet. You can use this machine as much as you need to, and it’ll most likely see a lot of use depending on how much your carpet picks up stains.

A steam cleaner is another alternative a lot of people use. A steam cleaner typically uses a liquid cleaner and heat to lift stains or spots. Once the area is treated, the cleaning solution stays on the carpet to protect it. Your carpets are left dry, clean, and refreshed.

Final Thoughts

It is a good idea to use both a vacuum cleaner and a carpet cleaner regularly on your carpets. You could even set a schedule and vacuum at least once a week while you only use your carpet scrubber every three to six months.

These two machines will ensure that your carpet stays looking clean and neat all year round.1 Likes

portable carpet shampooer

A portable carpet cleaner will quickly tackle spills and pet stains
There are probably few homes that would not benefit from a portable or spot carpet cleaner. Small carpet shampooers can be a lifesaver for wine or other spills of colored liquids, pet accidents or for tracked-in mud. However, they can’t handle big jobs or whole house cleaning; for that you need a full sized carpet cleaner or a commercial grade rental carpet cleaner, both of which are discussed elsewhere in this report.

“Small but mighty” is how we’ve seen dozens of reviewers describe the Bissell SpotClean Pro 3624 (Est. $130). Owners love its portability and versatility for cleaning RV carpeting, car interiors, area rugs, stairs and upholstery. This Bissell cleans with attachments that fit onto a hose, otherwise it works just like a full-sized model. It includes a 3-inch stain tool and a 6-inch stair tool. It also comes with a bottle of a well-reviewed cleaning solution, Bissell 2X Professional Deep Cleaning Formula (Est. $25 for 48 oz.). Other attachments are available for optional purchase, including an assortment of brushes, some powered and some specifically for pet messes.

Like all of the Bissell carpet cleaners in this report, the SpotClean Pro is reported as extremely durable, and Bissell gets very good reviews for customer service. One particular feature that many owners mention positively is how easy it is to thoroughly clean out the tanks when you’re done using this machine, a task that can be difficult and unpleasant on full-sized cleaners. The Bissell SpotClean’s cord is 22-feet long and the hose is 5-feet, giving it a good reach. At just 13.2 pounds, it’s considered highly portable by most reviewers, although a few still complain that it’s heavy, especially when filled with water.

In fact, the only complaint we saw about the Bissell SpotClean Pro is that some reviewers wish it had wheels to make it easier to move around. To them we say, never fear, Rug Doctor is here! The Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner (Est. $130) is nearly as well-reviewed for cleaning performance as the Bissell SpotClean, but it also has wheels and a retractable handle to make it easier to transport. Rug Doctor also includes a power brush for tough stains.

The downsides to the Rug Doctor are its shorter cord, only 15 feet, and higher weight of 15 pounds. However, it does have a slightly longer hose at 5.5 feet. The only real user complaint we saw about the Rug Doctor is its awkwardly shaped tank. It’s rounded on the top (and you fill it from the bottom), so you have to continually hold it when you’re filling it at the tap, something that several reviewers say is difficult to do if you have issues with hand or arm strength. The Bissell’s tank is square with a flat bottom.

Spot bots will help keep “Spot’s” spots under control
Of course we know that not every pet is named Spot, but regardless of what kind of critter you have, you’ll be able to make use of the Bissell SpotBot Pet Carpet Cleaner 33N8A (Est. $130). It’s quick and easy to set up and use. It also has something you won’t find on any upright model: an automated cleaning mode that is universally adored by users, and is particularly helpful for those with mobility issues. Just add water and detergent, set the SpotBot down, press the button and walk away. The machine will automatically inject the water and detergent into the carpet, scrub, vacuum the dirty water back out, then turn off when it’s done. If the stain is still visible, you can run the cycle again, and it’s easy to move around if the stain is larger than the 7-inch diameter cleaning area. It weighs 14.1 pounds.

The Bissell SpotBot has a couple of settings for different types of stains, a quick clean for lighter messes, a deep clean for heavier or set-in stains. Quick clean takes about three minutes, deep clean takes six minutes. The SpotBot is a very popular choice with reviewers for upholstery and area rugs, as well as traditional carpeting. It also converts to a portable carpet cleaner, with a hose and scrubbing brush, which store on the canister.

One issue we did note is that on the deep clean cycle it leaves quite a wet circle of carpet. Owners say they either switch to the hose function to suction out more water, or they just put a towel over the spot and blot it. Even with that quibble, most are extremely satisfied.

Although owners say the Bissell SpotBot does the best job of scrubbing out stains no matter what the source, the Bissell Little Green (Est. $125) is even easier to haul around. The Little Green weighs 13 pounds, slightly less than the SpotBot, and has a 15-foot electrical cord. It requires more elbow grease than the SpotBot, though, because the Little Green has no automated cleaning cycle. You must scrub stains manually with the included wand and 3-inch nozzle.

However, the Little Green has heated water technology, which is a definite selling point for some. Owners say the machine works well on small stains, and is easy to assemble and use. Some owners say the suction on this machine is weak, leaving the carpet too wet. A few also find the tank difficult to clean, and say it’s prone to leaking from the hose or the bottom of the machine. Still, when compared to other handheld carpet cleaners, the Bissell Little Green gets excellent feedback. It’s also made of at least 50 percent recycled plastic, a notable feature for some owners.

One caveat about any spot cleaner is this: It leaves clean spots in your carpet. This is a problem for some reviewers, who say they have to rent a full-sized upright so the rest of the carpet will match the spot-cleaned areas. If you have that issue, see our discussion of rental carpet cleaners elsewhere in this report, or, if you prefer to own your own, check out our recommendations for full-sized carpet cleaners.

carpet clear

If your carpet’s looking like it’s seen better days, here’s the know-how you need to get it feeling fresh again

Confused about which cleaning method is best for you carpet? Some cleaning solutions can work wonders on one kind of floor and wreak havoc on another. Here at Ideal Home, we thought we’d make it that little bit easier. So whatever your carpet type, check out our top tips on how to keep them ship-shape.
The essential carpet cleaning kit
Vacuum cleaner
Kitchen roll or clean white cloths
Detergent
Special stain remover
Carpet shampoo

  1. Start by vacuuming
Before you whip out the stain removers, you need to rid your carpet of any loose dirt, dust and hair (and fur, too, if you have pets). Don’t just vacuum around furniture, get right under sofas, armchairs and beds – ask for help moving them if necessary – and clear your dining room of chairs so you can move around more easily. Use the various nozzles or heads that come with your vacuum cleaner for a really thorough clean right up to the skirting boards.
  2. Tackle the stains
    How to clean carpet

Now that your carpet is (superficially) clean, it’ll be easier to locate any marks, scuffs or stains. Apply a stain remover, and rub using medium pressure for a few minutes. Don’t use too much force, as you could damage the pile. Wait around an hour for the patch to dry and try again if the stain hasn’t completely vanished. For future stains, always tackle them as soon as they happen. Blot them repeatedly with a cold damp cloth until they disappear – don’t rub or use hot.

  1. Time for a deep clean
If you have a pale or neutral-coloured carpet, it’ll really benefit from a deep clean. Either hire a carpet cleaner (try HSS Hire, from £25 per day) or invest in your own machine (check out Bissell’s
wide range of carpet cleaners, priced from £100). When you’ve covered and cleaned the entire floor, make the room a strictly foot traffic-free zone to allow it to dry – anything from two to 24 hours as required – ensuring the room is well ventilated throughout.
  2. Freshen it up

Skipped the shampoo? Finish the job by deodorising your carpet. Available in spray or foam form, apply a carpet refresher and leave to dry naturally.

Tip: Instead of carpet shampoo, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on a carpet, leave overnight, sweep up, then vacuum the rest.

How to maintain your carpets
Once you’ve scrubbed the stains out of your beloved carpet, you’ll want to make sure that you keep it looking its best for as long as possible. Here are our favourite tips to do so.

  1. Keep the dirt out
    How to clean carpets

Place a large doormat at external entrances for people to wipe their feet on before they enter, it will also help reduce the amount of dirt from outside being spread around the house

  1. Fit protectors
Frequent movement of furniture can affect the fibres of your carpet, so fit castor protectors or felt pads to the feet of your furniture to limit the extent of the damage.
  2. Try it first

Before using any cleaning or stain-removing product, check the colour fastness of your carpet or upholstery. Simply apply a little of the product to an inconspicuous area – for example, behind the TV or sofa – and allow to dry.

Cleaning Instructions HOST Dry Carpet .. carpet cleaner

Before you begin cleaning:
Invert box of HOST® Dry Carpet Cleaner for 10 minutes (this is all of the mixing you need to do).
If you are cleaning wool, Berber, natural fibers such as sisal, coir or jute, or delicate rugs such as Oriental, Chinese, or Persian, read “Cleaning Tips for Special Carpets & Rugs.”
There is no need to move major pieces of furniture.

vacuum
Step 1
Thoroughly vacuum all areas you plan to clean. Vacuuming helps remove dry soil from the carpet and makes cleaning easier.
Start with an empty vacuum cleaner bag.
Vacuum slowly and thoroughly. Pay special attention to high traffic areas such as entrances, hallways and in front of favorite furniture.
apply pre-spray
Step 2
If there are high traffic areas, tough spots or greasy, oily dirt within the 10′ x 10′ area of carpet, pre-spray with Pre-Clean.
Hold bottle waist-high and lightly mist Pre-Clean, using only 4 pumps per 3′ x 3′ area (do not use more than this; more is not better).
Allow Pre-Clean to sit on carpet for 2 – 3 minutes.
apply hostopen box of host
Step 3
Turn box upright and snip open the foil bag.
Apply about 9 handfuls of HOST to the 10′ x 10′ area of carpet.
Apply more on spots and spills and in high traffic areas (entranceways, hallways, in front of favorite furniture) and less in areas where people don’t walk.
Avoid applying to areas where there is no soil such as along walls or in corners.
Remember, only apply HOST to one 10′ x 10′ area at a time so the cleaning ingredients remain active.
CAUTION: Persons with unusual skin sensitivity should protect hands and arms from direct contact. Persons having respiratory ailments should avoid using in unventilated, confined areas.

squeeze lever remove tray
Step 4
Unwrap cord and plug machine into wall outlet (110 volt).
Place one foot on the edge of the tray. With hand near the base of the handle, lift the machine up and out of the tray.
Move the handle lock, found at the base of the handle, to the “Unlock” position.
To operate, squeeze the lever underneath the top of the handle. To lock the machine in the “on” position, slide the button on the top of the handle over while squeezing the lever.
CAUTION: Test the HOST Dry-Clean Machine in an inconspicuous area of the carpet. Some soft texture carpets may fuzz when brushed. If texture distortion occurs, do not use.

brush HOST through carpet
Step 5
Brush HOST through carpet
For maximum cleaning results, make 3 passes over the 10′ x10′ area with the HOST Dry-Clean Machine to thoroughly clean all sides of the carpet fibers.
brush diagram

Start in one corner of the 10′ x 10′ area and move sideways across the area using push /pull strokes to create an overlapping “W” pattern.

At the end of the row, step back to start a second row. Move sideways back across the area, overlapping about half of the first row. Continue brushing the entire 10′ x 10′
area this way.
Turn 90° to face across the area. Using the same technique as in the 1st pass, brush the 10′ x 10′ area completely.
Turn 90° again back to the first position and brush the 10′ x 10′ area completely a third time.
Tip: Occasionally tap the hood of the machine with your foot to release any HOST which may have gathered under it.

Tip: Heavily soiled traffic areas and tough spots may require some extra care. Apply more HOST to these areas and brush again. The more brushing you do, the better the results will be. With the HOST Dry Carpet Cleaning System, you don’t have to worry about overwetting the carpet.
vacuum
Step 6
Wait about an hour, then vacuum
Wait until HOST is completely dry (about an hour) and then simply vacuum.
HOST will lighten to a pale gold color as it dries.
Since HOST is all natural and safe for people and pets, you can use your room while it’s drying.
After vacuuming, a trace of HOST may remain in the carpet. This cleaner will not harm your carpet and will be removed with subsequent vacuuming.
If you notice a lot of HOST remaining, check your vacuum cleaner bag. Change the bag if it’s more than 1/2 full and vacuum again.
After cleaning, if you have HOST left over, close foil bag tightly to maintain freshness and store in a cool, dry place.

cleaning stairs remove handle
Stair Cleaning is Easy
Vacuum stairs before cleaning.
Remove the long handle from the HOST Dry-Clean Machine by lifting the small lever at the base of the handle and pulling
the handle up and out.
Start at the top of the stairs and work down.
If stairs are extremely dirty, mist each with HOST Pre-Clean first.
Apply one handful of HOST per stair.
To operate the machine, squeeze the lever underneath the lower handle and guide the machine across the stairs.
Make 3 passes as described in Step 5 “Brush HOST Through the Carpet.”
Wait until HOST is completely dry (about an hour) and then simply vacuum

O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop

Check Current Price on Amazon

O-Cedar has been in the market since the early 20th century. This not only guarantees that manufacturers know what they are up to, and also prepare efficient products. Their latest product to the market is the O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop. So to say, it is the company’s first steam mop.

Manufacturers advertise that this product guarantees killing up to 99.9 percent of bacteria on floors without using any chemicals. It specifically guarantees that this product is being tested in E. coli. Once powered on, this steam mop heats up in 20 seconds.

The triangular shape is perhaps the most recognizable unique feature of this steam cleaner. The head is designed to be triangular to make corner cleaning quite easy. The head is also flexible and swivels, allowing you to maneuver easily around the house furniture, thus you can achieve proper house coverage.

Actually, the pads are composed of 91% polyester and a 9% of other materials, allowing steam to penetrate quickly.

The steam power and the steam level settings of this cleaner are outstanding. As mentioned before, the cleaner heats up in 20 seconds, thus you can get a quick plug-in steam time. As if this isn’t enough, the O-Cedar Microfiber Steam Mop also comes with two steam volume settings. You can either choose minimum, which is perfect for delicate floors such as wood and laminate or maximum settings for sealed hard floors.

The self-protective mode is the other feature that will make you love this steam cleaner. For instance, when water volume decreases to critical levels in the cleaner, the self-protective mode is triggered where the device stops working, and the LED light turns red. This indicates that the cleaner isn’t suitable for use. Once refilled, the LED light turns from red to green signaling that you can proceed.

The Snap-on glider accessory is the favorite accessory of this steam mop. This applies to those who want to refresh the carpets. Once the carpet glider accessory is snapped in place, push and pull the steam cleaner on the carpet’s surface for an efficient clean-up.

Pros:
Heats up only in 20 seconds.
Lightweight – 2.3 KGS.
Adjustable steam settings.
Easy to assemble.
Sanitizes really quickly and efficiently.
Cons:
Doesn’t feel much sturdy.
Carpet Snap-on feature snaps off easily.

portable carpet cleaners for sale

Your child spilled chocolate on carpet?

Don’t worry. It’s easy as pie to clean up.

That’s where a portable carpet cleaner comes into play

Even if some full sized carpet cleaners have hoses that allow it to clean upholstery, it’s hard to beat a portable carpet and upholstery cleaner in terms of their compact and lightweight features.

The hose and nozzle combo allow it to clean areas a big carpet cleaner wouldn’t fit into.
Who will benefit most?
Folks who need a portable carpet cleaner are those who live with pets, very young children or folks who don’t care to clean up.

If you find yourself to be clumsy and tend to spill things here and there then you probably need one as well.

The carpet cleaners we will look at here are extractor-type machines.

You won’t see any steam cleaners because these are found to be not as effective in cleaning stains.

These machines will work best at removing stains and blemishes on fabric upholstery, rugs and carpet.

Design is simple – pour in hot tap water and cleaning solution (usually provided by the manufacturer) in a water tank. You then take the nozzle and rub it back and forth over the stain.

Underneath this nozzle are stiff bristles that agitate and lifts up stain.

Afterwards, you’ll take the same nozzle and suck up residue that goes into a separate water tank.

Don’t rely on this machine to disinfect bug-infested furniture because you’ll need at least 103 degrees Fahrenheit to kill those creatures.
Our Pick: Bissell SpotClean Professional 3624

The Bissell Spot Clean Professional 3624 is hands down the best performing portable carpet and upholstery cleaner available right now. It comes with a 4 foot hose that makes it very easy to use. This variant will provide great agitation without damaging (most) fabric and carpet types. Between this and a carpet steam cleaner, this would be the hands down option.

Pros
Great agitation on carpet and upholstery – effective at cleaning spot stains
Separate dirty water tank make it easy to clean
Versatile tool set – has both wide and narrow brushes to give you more options
Bissell has its own deep cleaning solution that takes out the guesswork in what to use
Cons
Will not deep clean or clean a whole room of carpet – this machine is strictly a spot cleaner
Inlet for the clean water tank isn’t airtight so it’ll drip
Pretty noisy at over 80 decibels
When it comes to the combination of stain cleaning performance and price, it’s hard to beat the Bissell Spot Clean Professional 3624.

Even if you compare this with a steam cleaner, this machine will do a better job in terms of cleaning spot stains.

Name the stain – puke, juice, wine or pet urine, this spot cleaner clean it up.

This is a great option if you need something to help you keep your upholstery clean.

It doesn’t have the ability to deep clean or disinfect but it excels at removing stains no matter the type.

To give you an idea how this machine performs, watch this video from Vacuum Wars and see how it compares to its competitors the Rug Doctor and Hoover…

Hands Free: Bissell SpotBot Stain Cleaner 33N8

Like what the name implies, the Bissell SpotBot is a hands free spot cleaner that will do the job for you. Cleaning performance is almost up to par with the Bissell SpotClean Professional but this one has the advantage of you not having to manually scrub back and forth. However the nozzle attachment does not clean as well.

Pros

  • Hands free option to spot clean carpet, rugs or upholstery
  • Great option to clean pet litter, poop, stains, wine, grease and more
  • Easy to use and stow away
  • Comes with two cleaning cycles for walkaway convenience

Cons

  • Nozzle attachment will not work as well as the main brush

Folks who don’t like the idea of manually scrubbing stains will appreciate the hands free nature of the Bissell SpotBot 33N8.

This spot cleaner is unique in that it does the scrubbing for you.

Underneath this machine is a brush that spins like a street sweeper to agitate carpet.

Using this is a little bit different.

Instead of scrubbing the nozzle back and forth, you place the machine directly on the stain and let the brush do the work.

Surprisingly, this scrubber works quite well on a variety of stains. Consumers say that this spot cleaner can clean pet puke, food stains and baby stains.

It also comes with a detachable hose and nozzle should there be a need to clean stains on areas that the main brush cannot clean.

Unfortunately, the nozzle does not clean as well as the main cleaning brush.Bottom line: The Bissell SpotBot 33N8 is a great option for folks looking for a hands free solution to clean stains off carpet. Even if this is branded as a carpet cleaner, you can also use this on upholstery as effective.

Bissell carpet cleaner clearance

Bissell carpet cleaners are specifically designed to lift out ground-in dirt and to clean the surface of the carpet as well. Bissell carpet cleaners feature a 1-gallon tank capacity, heated cleaning formula and rotating brushes, as well a 6.5-amp motor. Once the Bissell carpet cleaner has been used to clean carpets and other surfaces, it is important to properly clean out the unit to maintain the cleaner and keep it working properly. Cleaning out a Bissell carpet cleaner only takes a few steps.

Step 1
Turn off the carpet cleaner and unplug it from the power supply. Lift out the water tank from the main base and open it by rotating the handle forward. Lift off the lid and empty the tank. Rinse out the tank and wipe it clean. Close the lid and return the tank to the carpet cleaner.

Step 2
Remove the lint screen on the left side of the tank lid and rinse the lint screen thoroughly. Reattach the lint screen to the tank lid.

Step 3
Grasp the handle at the nozzle handle and pull forward to remove the nozzle. Rinse the nozzle under clean water and replace it by lining up the slots on the base with the hooks on the nozzle. Attach the nozzle to the base and click into place.

Step 4
Remove any hair, debris or fibers caught in the brushes.

Step 5
Wipe down the exterior of the carpet cleaner with a clean, damp cloth. Allow the carpet cleaner time to dry thoroughly before use.

Your carpet cleaner is used all through the year to get rid of tough stains and to perform routine cleaning jobs. But do you take the time to ensure that it is properly cleaned and working at its best? It is important that your carpet cleaning machine is cleaned on a regular basis to prevent the machines components from possibly becoming clogged and malfunctioning. To have a well functioning machine for a long time, keep it adequately maintained.

Here are instructions on how to properly maintain your carpet cleaner. Remember to unplug your machine from all power sources before starting the cleaning process.

Clean the nozzle. Remove dirt and grime by detaching the nozzle, which can be done with most carpet cleaner models. Place the nozzle under the sink faucet and clean it with regular tap water. Take a clean cloth and apply pressure to remove any stuck on dirt that may remain in the nozzle area.
Remove lint. While the nozzle is detached, remove lint that is stuck in the machine. This can usually be found in one section due to a filter trap or screen.
Clean the brushes. The brushes should be cleaned as well. Pull out fibers, hair or any other debris that is caught in the brushes. Once the majority of debris has been removed, remove the brushes from the machine. Place them under the faucet and clean them with tap water.
Clean the tank. Avoid storing a carpet cleaner without cleaning and rinsing it first. The best way to do this is to empty the tank to get rid of all cleaning solution. Fill it back up with fresh water so that the solution can be flushed out. This will help prevent clogging in various parts of your carpet cleaning machine.
Use recommended cleaning products. Although many homeowners will be tempted to use bargain brand cleaners, it is best to only use cleaning products that are recommended by the manufacturer. Not only is this the best way to clean your carpet, but it is also the best way to efficiently use your carpet cleaning machine. In addition, some manufacturers will void the warranty if you use cleaning solution that is not endorsed by the manufacturer. It is best to determine which types of cleaners are designed to work with your carpet cleaner model.
Clean the exterior. Prevent the buildup of dust and dirt on the exterior of your carpet cleaner. Take a clean damp cloth and wipe down the outside of the cleaner after each use.
Dry the cleaner. Make sure that your carpet cleaner is completely dry before putting it into storage.

During our test and review, we found this bagless upright Shark vacuum an incredible floor cleaner that leaves no stain behind, and that includes pet hair. No doubt about it, this bagless upright vacuum from shark gives you one of the most versatile cleaning experiences you can ever get in a vacuum cleaner.

Some of the features we really loved about this bagless upright vacuum is its ability to clean pet hair and fur, smooth “lift-away hand vacuum” feature and on top of it all is a lightweight design. In addition, it comes with an HEPA filter and anti-allergy seal, which are some of the other things that makes this home vacuum cleaner a best seller.

Beauty aside, the Dyson V8 Absolute is arguably the best cordless stick vacuum cleaner for carpets and hardwood floor (pet hair included), and can also function as a handheld vacuum with its lift away feature.

The Design.
To be honest with you, this vacuum is a beauty to behold. Crafted with some of the finest materials/stick, its powerful cordless design comes with a removable extender pole and six different heads for different surfaces and use cases. Which makes this vacuum great for spot-cleaning, vacuuming cars, and removing pet hair from furniture.

Performance and features.

Although the newer Dyson cyclon V10 tends to provide more deeper cleaning, in our test, we found the Dyson V8 Absolute cordless stick vacuum cleaner to be a top-of-the-line battery-powered vacuum cleaning machine that rivals the cleaning power of even the best selling upright vacuum.

As with other top rated vacuums, you can disconnect the head of this vacuum from the main body and use it as a handheld vacuum cleaner, using the suction motor in the pistol-grip handle area.

Unlike other cordless vacuum cleaners, when you’re done cleaning, you just clip it to a wall mount where it will charge and await your next vacuuming job. Yes, the V8 Absolute is lightweight and easy to carry around the house.

Battery life and strength.

Judging by what we saw during our test, a full charge of the dyson V8 absolute cordless vacuum will give you around 40 minutes of use, which is really impressive for a cordless cleaner. Please note that mileage will vary once you start using the motorized heads – or switch on the V8 Absolute’s MAX mode, for a deeper cleaning.

Bissell Carpet cleaner repair

No matter what manufacture you purchase your carpet cleaner from the basic design will remain the same. There are basic parts that can break or need servicing through out its life to keep it in good working order.

Before you begin working on your carpet cleaner you want to visit your manufacture and find an exploded view of all of the parts. Often you can get lucky and find a service manual that will also provide repair instructions but if you can not you may be able to find a parts detail view in their parts sales documentation.

If you have any experience working on small appliances like vacuum cleaners then repairing your carpet cleaner really isn’t that much more difficult. You will be using your knowledge of vacuum cleaners and adding skills of basic plumbing to fix any problems with the water distribution and capture devices.

In this howto we will be fixing a unit that is not spraying through the main spray jets to the floor. After filling the cleaner with water and cleaner we found two things that point to a problem in the distribution lines. This means we will need to almost completely disassemble the cleaner to cure this problem.

Diagnosing the problem
Testing the unit we found that the main motor that runs the vacuum and water pump for spraying was working.

There is a second switch for the heater and it also came on but since no water was coming out of the jets it was impossible to tell if the heater was heating the water. Heaters in these cleaners only increase the temperature of the water that you feed it so it is important to fill your cleaner with very warm tap water then the heater will increase that temperature by about 20 degrees. It is not meant to completely heat cold water to a useable temperature.

After seeing that the motor ran and the brush roller was working the access door that lets you view if the belt to the water pump was opened. You may find that the water pump belt needs replacing and in this case it is a special order for your cleaner. The fix is pretty simple just replace the belt.

In our case the belt was in place and working and with a closer look you could see that there was water in the feed tube and some flow of bubbles in the exit tube from the water pump. This meant that the water pump was working but there was a block someplace after the pump and before the jets that spray the water.

Since the pump was working the wand attachment was tested. This is the wand that is used for cleaning upholstery.

The wand did spray water and vacuum back the dirty water. However in this cleaner the water that goes through the wand adapter is not heated It has its own diverter adapter and takes the tank water directly to the wand head.

At this point we know that the water lines from the soap and clean water, through the water pump and up to the split adapter are supplying water and are not clogged. We could stop now and do the whole house with the hand wand adapter but that would be a little crazy….

To access the areas we need to inspect we remove the upper housing on the floor part of the unit. There are 4 screws that hold the top housing on and they are accessed from below. Read the Final Note below before you continue.

Next we removed the top handle from the unit by removing the two screws that hold it on.

Then we opened the lower handle area to inspect the water heater and button switch that allows water to flow to the main spray jets.

First we inspected the lines for any crimping. If any of the lines are crimped because they were improperly routed then water will not flow. This is important to remember when you are reassembling the unit. Water lines should have a specific path and my have notched receivers to hold them in place.
\
The lines looked good so the next suspect is the switch.

The switch is activated on the upper handle by pulling a trigger that pushes down a rod that depresses the flow switch and this allows water to flow. The handles on a bissell have been known to not operate correctly and this unit actually has a different upper handle if ours was to break that is a recall replacement.

Our handle is working correctly and is able to depress the flow switch button.

Removing the hose that exits the switch you can blow through it and see if the clog is after the switch.

The air blew some water out of the main jets so the clog must be in the line after the adapter to the hand wand and up to to the switch or in the water heater.

Finally we remove both lines from the water heater and find that the water heater is full of calcium or soap residue buildup.

Using a sewing needle the blockage is removed however in your case the buildup may be deeper into the heater and you would need compressed air or a replacement heater to repair the cleaner.

Your other option is to put a water line connector in place of the water heater and use the unit without the heater until your replacement part arrives.

The Benefits of Professional House Carpet Cleaning service

Of all the furnishings in a home, the carpet experiences the most direct traffic which contributes to dirt accumulation and general wear and tear. It is important to keep the carpet clean and well maintained to not only keep it looking new, but also to increase its longevity. The carpet in a home should be professionally cleaned once or twice a year depending on the amount of foot traffic in your home. Homeowners should make sure to vacuum the carpet at least once a week between professional cleanings.
Advantages of Carpet Cleaning

  1. Extends the life of your carpet
One major benefit of a professional carpet cleaning service is that it helps extend the life of your carpet. Over time, dirt, dust, allergens, and other debris accumulate in the carpet and get embedded within the fibers which can eventually cause the fibers to split and deteriorate. Removing this built up of dirt and debris will help improve the longevity of the carpet as dust and other debris are more likely to adhere to a dirty carpet than a clean carpet.

Professional carpet cleaners typically use cleaning methods involving hot water extraction to effectively remove the debris from deep within the fibers and leave the carpet sanitized. Homeowners can also help decrease the build-up of debris in the carpet between cleanings by vacuuming regularly.

  1. Contributes to a healthier environment
    Healthy-Environment-Benefits-of-Carpet-Cleaning
A clean carpet will contribute to a clean environment, free of allergens

Some of the dust and allergens that get trapped in the carpet fibers may find their way into the breathing air where they can cause respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and other health problems. The high temperature of the water used by most carpet cleaning professionals kills off these allergens so that they are no longer a health threat and leaves the surface of the carpet fully sanitized.

  1. Complete removal of dirt and bacteria
While it’s much easier to vacuum around the home than hiring a carpet cleaning service, a vacuum will only remove surface dirt. So all that debris that has become embedded with the fibers will stay there until it receives professional treatment.

Over time, this will cause excess wearing on the fibers, deteriorating faster. Bacteria in the carpet can also create odors, making it more difficult to breathe for those battling asthma or allergies.

  1. Eliminates Carpet Stains
Another great advantage provided by professional carpet cleanings is that they can remove tough stains. Using the hot water extraction method, professionals are able to remove stains from all of the following:

Healthy-Environment-Benefits-of-Carpet-Cleaning
Carpet cleaning can remove tough stains from wine, ink, pets, mud, and other sources.

Coffee spills
Dirt and mud
Ink
Pet stains
Red wine
After a professional carpet cleaning, you shouldn’t have to worry about looking at the ugly spots or be embarrassed in front of guests.

  1. No Residues
While vacuums don’t leave residues, some carpet cleaning machines do. If the equipment or products are old or cheaper, they can be inefficient and leave some of the cleaning solution behind.

On the other hand, the equipment used by ServiceMaster is always updated and uses commercial cleaning products to restore carpeting to a like-new condition. They also employ the hot water extraction technique to achieve the best results, leaving the fibers free of all dirt and stains.

  1. Reduces Traffic Lane Effects
    Carpet-Cleaning-Reduces-Effects-of-Traffic-Lanes
Carpet cleaning can reduce the effects of traffic lanes, extending its lifespan in high-traveled areas.

Areas of carpeting that receive significant foot traffic, including hallways, living rooms, kitchens, etc., will deteriorate much faster than those in bedrooms or under couches. This is because dirt is constantly being tracked in these areas, and you may have even noticed that these areas are darker than others.

But the advantage of carpet cleanings is that they will remove the dirt and slow down these “traffic lanes” effects. The dark areas of the carpet will be removed and the fibers will be restored.

  1. Enhances overall appearance of the room
Did you know that the carpeting is the largest furnishing in a room? It is also the one that receives the most use. It makes sense, but not many people give much thought about exactly how much dirt is being tracked in every day.

While one may not notice it at first, over time the room can look dirty and outdated just by the carpet’s condition. Professional carpet cleaning can keep not only the fibers looking new but improve the aesthetics of the room.

By keeping your carpet consistently maintained and having it professionally cleaned annually, you can increase the appearance and longevity of your carpet while contributing to a healthier environment. The spring season is a great time to have your carpet professionally cleaned to remove the dirt and debris that has settled in your home all winter.

But these surfaces can lose their luster over time, especially in high-use areas of your business. Chem-Dry uses specialized cleaning solutions and a unique, multi-step process to penetrate deep inside granite’s porous surface to remove the build-up of dirt and other unhealthy elements and restore the shine of your granite. Based on tests conducted by an independent laboratory, our process combined with a sanitizer was found to remove an average of 98.4% of bacteria from granite countertops.

Water Damage Cleanup Service

How to Deep Clean a Carpet Without a Cleaning machine

If your house has carpet — plus kids or pets — then you need to know how to deep clean carpets without a steam cleaner. Because let’s face it, mud and red fruit punch are not a good combination, especially if you want to keep your floors looking clean.

But the tricks behind knowing how to deep clean carpet stains are not necessarily common knowledge. That’s why we asked the experts to answer one very important concern people commonly have: how to deep clean your carpet the best way possible.
How to Deep Clean a Carpet Without a Steam Cleaner
Jennifer Rodriguez, chief hygiene officer at Pro Housekeepers, knows a thing or two about how to deep clean a carpet. She offers up this method that uses a vacuum cleaner plus baking soda or dish soap.

Cleaners needed: Baking soda or dish soap (alternatively, you can use the same product used in steam cleaners)

Tools needed: Old toothbrush, brush, clean rag or towel, and bucket

Here are the steps for how to clean your carpet without a steam cleaner:

Get a bucket of warm water and your preferred cleaning tool ready.
Vacuum the entire area you wish to clean to get rid of dirt and dust.
If using baking soda, sprinkle the stain until completely covered. If using dish soap, measure the stain’s size, and use 1 tablespoon per 6 to 8 inches of stain.
Swoosh it around until you see bubbles.
Using an old brush, toothbrush, rag, or towel, gently scrub the stain with warm water.
Do not completely soak the floor, just make it wet enough to scrub away the dirt/stain.
Turn on any fans, or open nearby windows to allow carpet to air dry.
Once dry, vacuum again.

How to Deep Clean Your Carpet Without a Machine
Buying or renting a machine to steam clean your carpet is not the only way to get the stubborn stains out. If you have a mess to clean up but you don’t want to run to the store for a steam cleaner, you might be wondering how to deep clean your carpet without a machine. The good news is, if you have a vacuum, you can get the job done.

DIY blogger Ali Fields says when she needs to remember how to deep clean a carpet by hand, she trusts her grandmother’s wisdom.

You’ll need two tools: a stiff-bristled scrubbing brush (the largest you have — rubber works best) and a spray bottle.

You’ll also need the following:

A mixture of water and some detergent
Some table salt (sea salt, kosher salt — it’s all fine!)
Some baking soda
A few old rags or terry cloth towels. (Using an old shirt you’ve been meaning to get rid of also works.)
Here’s how to deep clean carpet yourself:

Start by mixing up a tiny bit of soap (1/8th teaspoon, though you can just eyeball a small amount) with the water in the spray bottle. Don’t shake it excessively, but let it mix.
Sprinkle the baking soda and table salt over the area you want to deep clean; you don’t need to cover it completely.
Spray the mixture of soapy water lightly over the same area. Let it sit for a few minutes.
Brush the carpet in one direction with your brush. This will accumulate hair and debris for you to pick up easily.
If there’s still hair/dirt, move 90 degrees from the original direction and start again.
Press the towels into the carpet, letting them saturate with water.
After the area is mostly dry, empty the soapy mix from your spray bottle, fill it with regular tap water, and lightly spray the carpet once more.
Again, press the cloth towels into the carpet. Fields says if she’s cleaning a small area, she’ll put a few heavy items on top of the cloths and let them sit for a while.
This technique is best for spot-cleaning stains, but if you have a large enough brush, it’s easy to do an entire room.

Fields says this method is completely safe to use with children and pets. Plus, instead of smelling like heavy detergents and must (as would happen when you use a carpet cleaner), the carpets will smell like nothing at all!

Best for Pet Hair: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Upright Bagless Pet Vacuum Cleaner
Do you feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle against pet hair in your home? If you have one or more pets, it might seem like you have to vacuum constantly to keep the hair under control, and this can often wear down vacuum cleaners, causing them to die early deaths.

For this reason, many pet owners choose vacuum cleaners specifically designed to pull pet hair out of the carpet, and one great option for this is the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Upright Bagless Pet Vacuum Cleaner. One noteworthy feature of this product is its tangle-free brush roll, which saves you from having to take scissors to all the wrapped up hair after you vacuum.

The product also features a cyclonic pet hair spooling system with a hands-free empty, so you don’t have to stick your hand in all the dirt to get pet hair out of the canister. Not to mention this vacuum comes with specialized pet tools to help you clean a variety of services around your home.

Reviewers rave about the suction on this vacuum, writing that it works wonders, even if you have long-haired pets. Several say it does great on carpets, “picking up hair like a dream.” If you’re tired of picking up after your fur babies, this may very well be the product for you.

How do I deep clean my carpet with a vacuum?

Over time spot cleaning just doesn’t do it. You turn around one day and your carpets are a shade darker than when you had them installed. Or, you do a great job spot cleaning only to reveal how dirty the rest of the carpeting really is. Here’s a way to get them green clean.
What You Need
Ingredients : Salt, borax and white vinegar.

Equipment: A vacuum and a carpet steam cleaner, don’t worry, I explain why we need the heavy equipment below.

Instructions
Start out with good old spot cleaning then move to the more heavy duty all over work .

  1. Vacuum. Vacuum like you’ve never vacuumed before: go in 3 different directions and take your time. Get the dust, hair and particles out of the pile
  2. Mix 1/4 cup salt, 1/4 cup borax and 1/4 cup vinegar, then apply this paste to deep stains or heavily soiled sections of carpet. Allow the paste to sit on the carpet for several hours until it dries completely, then vacuum it away .
  3. Start up the steam cleaner. Why are we using a steam cleaner you ask? I’ve looked into lots of options from dry chemical cleaning (vetoed because of the chemicals and what is left in the carpet) to steam cleaning and have decided that renting a steam machine is the best option because the chemicals are optiona l. Try to rent a new machine to increase efficiency and do a little pre-cleaning of the machine if it doesn’t come to you pristine .
  4. Skip the carpet shampoo. Hot water can get most grime out of your carpet alone, just make sure you’re filling your machine with really hot water .
  5. If you have especially soiled carpeting you can add 1 cup white vinegar to 2.5 gallons of water for very deep cleaning .
  6. Most machines have 2 modes. First you depress a button and release the hot water and second you release the button and it sucks water back up. Spend 3/4 of your time on the second mode. Soak the carpet then go over it three or four times to dry the carpet as much as possible .
  7. Steam clean the carpets a second time. You rented the machine for the day right? you might as well get your money’s worth and do 2 passes .
  8. Let the carpets dry completely. Once they are mostly dry you can bring furniture back in but we usually put aluminum foil under the legs to avoid any stain bleeding onto the wet carpets. Then, let them dry all the way before you walk on them to avoid staining them again .
  9. Finally, dispose of the water from the machine responsibly. Many places that rent out the machines will take the machine back full to avoid putting the chemicals from your carpet down the drain. Otherwise, call your local water treatment plant to enquire about how to dispose of the waste water .

The best carpet shampooer

What are the top rated carpet cleaning machines for pet owners? Specifically, what are the best models for pet stains, which many carpet shampooers don’t do a good job with? We review and compare some of the best units that can handle pet stains like pet urine without redistributing the mess and driving it deeper into the carpet when you try to remove it.
Nature’s Miracle Stain and Odor Remover Carpet Shampoo
Nature’s Miracle Stain Carpet ShampooYou can use Nature’s Miracle to remove the majority of odors and stains, but don’t forget that it’s an enzyme cleaner – you have to shake the bottle before every use. Enzyme cleaners break the particles and penetrate the carpet fibers, extracting stains, allergens, and odors to the surface.

This is a low-foaming formula that you can use with any steam cleaner or water-based carpet shampoo. It’s intended for cleaning carpets of all colors. This stain and dirt remover contains rug brighteners and conditioners that will make your carpet look fresh – it will even be a couple of shades lighter after the wash.

This carpet shampoo removes all odors, but while it’s sold as unscented, that isn’t the case. If you need light cleaning, then the scent isn’t overpowering. But, if you use too much product, more than it’s written on the label, then you will feel a powerful scent. If you have nasty stains, the scent will definitely get worse until it gets better. Same goes if you don’t have a good carpet cleaner that removes all the shampoo residue.

Pros

Powerful stain and odor remover that works well when it comes to getting the dirt and pet odor from the carpet fibers.
Carpets get lighter and appear refreshed.
Cons

In contact with pet urine, the scent is very strong as the enzymes break up the odor particles.
It might take a couple of tries before the carpets are thoroughly cleaned.
Bubba’s Super Steamer Carpet Shampoo
Bubba’s Super Steamer Carpet CleanerBubba’s Super Steamer Carpet Shampoo is specifically formulated to get rid of pet odors and stains, but it also works well for regular carpet steaming and cleaning. Having pets at home definitely means there are heavy traffic areas, and carpets can get dirty – fast. Since animals love marking their territories bit by bit, it might be a while until you notice the funky scent.

That said, this cleaner can help you remove the odors, but you have to understand that if the surfaces are thoroughly soaked, it will take more than one shampooing and cleaning until you get everything out. Many people stop trying mid-process and blame the product instead.

Since Bubba’s carpet shampoo isn’t an enzyme cleaner, you don’t have to let it soak on the rug before you proceed with cleaning. The formula acts immediately and breaks up dirt particles that are easily removed with any commercial pet shampooer like Hoover or Bissell. The scent isn’t overpowering if you use small amounts for light cleaning, but heavily soiled carpets require a lot more attention, so the scent can be quite powerful.

Pros

This is a green carpet cleaner, which means that it doesn’t affect the environment, just the deep-rooted stains.
No-foam formula that you can rinse off immediately with carpet cleaners.
Cons

If used in larger quantities, this carpet shampoo has that strong, hospital-ish chemical smell that lasts a while.

zerorez carpet cleaning

Cuddles Stay, Odors Go
Furry friends add fun to any home—but they can also add unwanted aromas. Traditional carpet cleaners rely on perfumes or deodorizers that add residue and work only temporarily to mask these odors.

Zerorez uses a non-toxic, food-grade enzyme that eliminates unpleasant smells instead of simply masking them. Then, we clean the area with our Powered Water solution which is completely safe for kids, pets, and the environment.
Spills and Stains – Solved for Good
Deep stains in carpet or upholstery can ruin the look of a room. It’s tempting to think that it takes harsh detergents or strong chemicals to get stains out. However, the truth is detergents always leave behind a soapy residue—and soapy residue actually attracts dirt and oil towards the fibers of your carpet or furniture. Furthermore, some chemicals can damage fine fabrics.

Zerorez offers a better, more permanent answer. Our patent-pending Powered Water solution leaves behind zero residue—meaning your carpet and upholstery stay cleaner, longer.
Thorough Care for Your Thoroughfares
It’s easy to see discoloration in the high-traffic areas of many carpets. However, discoloration is often the first thing to reappear after a traditional carpet cleaning. Conventional cleaners use a lot of high-temperature water even though high-temperature water can damage a carpet’s backing and seep underneath carpet. When carpet is exposed to footsteps, stains rise up from the pad beneath.

Zerorez’s high-pressure cleaning system gets to the root of your carpet’s fibers, but does not penetrate the backing. We also use about half the water other cleaners do, which means your carpet will be dry and ready to stand up to normal wear-and-tear just hours after a carpet cleaning.
Make Your Upholstery Look New Again
At Zerorez, getting difficult-to-clean fabric-covered surfaces looking as good as new is our specialty. And we do it without the use of soap or harsh chemicals. Our upholstery cleaning company in Atlanta uses specialty upholstery tools that apply our patented Powered water process gently to your furniture – leaving it insanely clean with minimal dry time. That’s why it’s easy for our upholstery cleaners to say, “If Zerorez can’t clean it, then it can’t be cleaned… guaranteed.”

small rug cleaner machines

Carpet cleaning machines are a popular way to get dirt out of carpets. Whether you own one of your own or rent one from the store, the promise is a fresh looking and smelling carpet in just a few hours. But will these machines work on oriental rugs or will they damage them?
Can You Clean an Oriental Rug with a Carpet Cleaning Machine?
John: Sam our topic today is do carpet cleaning machines work on Oriental rugs? Are carpet cleaning machines a good choice to clean your Oriental rug?

Sam: My big word is no, but there are cases where it would be yes, and let me try to qualify that for you. As far as why you should, this is when you have a bad pet or somebody’s had an accident or whatever. Small hand cleaning type of equipment would be great to extract, even a shop vac could be great just to extract the whatever it is out of the carpet as soon as possible. That would be good and if you could treat it with some water when you’re extracting that would be great as well, but as far as cleaning, a deep down cleaning the whole rug type of thing, I would say no, and the reason being is that a lot of people understand when you’re cleaning a rug with a machine, you’re cleaning the surface dirt off of it but you’re not getting the deep-down dirt out of it and a lot of times you’re just pushing that dirt into the back of the rug and then trying to suck it back out.

Basically, you’re pressuring it in and pressuring it out and, that’s what they think cleans a rug. In nylon carpeting or synthetic carpeting where it’s slick and slippery and stuff slides off it pretty easy, you say, “Not a big deal.” But in that piece of woven carpet or rug that’s made from wool, I would not recommend that because you don’t get that dirt off. We always dust everything first which means basically, if you can imagine taking a belt to the back of your rug, or even take your sweeper with a beater bar on it and just lay it on its face and then beat the back of the carpet, and then pulling it back up and seeing all that fine silt and dirt laying there on the floor. If you don’t get that out, that’s going to get mixed right into that soapy water that you’re pushing into [the rug]. You’re just cleaning with soapy dirty water.

You basically want to get that dirt out of it as much as you can before you clean and you want to clean it as dry as possible not as wet as possible and you want more detergent because the detergent’s really doing the cleaning of that fiber. I think with the other way, you’re pushing in more water and then cleaning solution, and plus when you get a rug that’s woven, it gets wet on the back just as much as it gets wet on the front. If you don’t get that rug up, you and leave it down and it’s a moist humid day, you’ll get mold and mildew that will create on the back there because it’s not dry. Anything that’s a damp situation, mold and mildew will come out and it is ugly and it happens so quickly and it spreads so widely, it’ll be shocking to you. I’ve seen a lot of bad results from that, especially with the mold and mildew situation after the cleaning.

Can an Oriental Rug Be Cleaned After a Spill Without a Professional?
John: How can Oriental rugs be cleaned quickly after you have a spill without having to take it to a professional carpet clean?

Sam: Again, I think if you don’t have a shop vac, I think the other thing would be, if it’s a wet spill, basically get a towel and just make sure it’s clean and white or not having any color in it, and just blot and pressure that cloth into the wet stuff and get up as much as you can.

I have an old recipe that I stole from my grandmother. I’m not going to tell you how many years ago, but I’ve been using it for my whole entire life and I keep it mixed up underneath my sink so when something happens, I’m ready. I’ve got a party going on, “Hey. No problem.” I’ll just pop that, shake that jar up, pull the lid off of it, put the soap on it, wipe it down in the direction of the grain and away it goes, and that’s all you have to do with about 99% of your stains.

There’ll be some stains that that won’t work for, but I would say mostly food and drink related stains, even some pet stains depending on what kind of accident your pet has, will be very effective as well.

Home Cleaning Recipe for Oriental Rugs
John: Can you give us your grandmother’s secret recipe?

Sam: Yes. I forgot about that part, didn’t I? It’s a teaspoon of something you do your clothes with, Dreft or something for kids clothes with a pH in that 7-7.5 range is perfect for it. I always use powder detergents. I don’t really know how to formulate the concentrated stuff that’s out today and it’s probably hard to find what I’m looking for, but if you’re doing children’s clothing and especially babies clothing you’ll see the Ivory, the Dreft and things like that, which will have that nice detergent pH balance which I’m looking for because wool is a natural fiber.

A teaspoon of that, a teaspoon of white vinegar, and a quarter of lukewarm water just out of the tap, just the way it comes out. Put it into a jar. Use an orange juice container jar with a big round lid on it, I just put that on there and shake it and then you’ll get a lot of suds from that and just take the suds out with your hand and throw it on the spot then work the suds in and just keep rotating the towel.

When You Should Have an Oriental Rug Professionally Cleaned
John: Okay. That’s great. When is a professional cleaning indicated for Oriental rugs?

Sam: I think if you try cleaning it the simple way, which is a little soap and water and you’re not getting results from the stain, definitely you need a professional. If the rug you have is beginning to look like a different color, like it’s dingy looking and doesn’t have that life and that depth of color that it used to have, it’s probably got dirt on and that’s what you’re seeing, is that film on it. If a rug has a fringe on it, usually the fringe is cotton. It’s usually something that shows the soiling and dirt faster than the rug will.

Wool is nice because it tends to repel soil and when you sweep it, most of it gets into the sweeper and you get rid of it very easily. It takes a while for a rug, I’d say three to five years is average, but there’s some people I would say every year and there’s some people I could say go 20 years. A lot of people bring in a rug. It looks like a brand-new, I said, “Why clean it? I will take it and clean it, but you don’t need it.”

Maintaining an Oriental Rug
John: Yes. Maybe if it’s just not in a high-traffic area, it doesn’t get a lot of traffic on it, it doesn’t get a lot of dirt on it and really doesn’t need much.

Sam: Exactly. I think that’s a problem to get it clean just for cleaning sake. Cleaning takes life out of any textile. Clothing, rugs, doesn’t matter, draperies, whatever. The less you have to clean, the better off you are. The main thing is to maintain them as best you can.

The big thing for me besides cleaning is rotating your rug and that is something that I think probably nobody really does and I would highly recommend that where they basically just get traffic on one section of the rug. If they rotate it and even it out more, that would also be helpful in maintaining your rug.

John: That would probably be especially true if you have your rug right in your living room, in front of the couch, say that spot right in front of the couch is going to get a lot of traffic on it from your feet just constantly. Just by spinning it around a hundred and eighty degrees you’re using the other side now. I just came from a house where a lady want to repair an old Oriental rug, a beautiful rug. It had a hole on it about three by five inches. Maybe because they never rotate it and there the husband who would always had a funny foot. You’d always just twitch and rub it. He put a hole right through that rug, a huge hole.

John: Wow. That’s amazing.

Dirt free carpet cleaning

About Dirt Free Carpet
Dirt Free officially began as a carpet cleaning company in the late 1980’s in Houston, Texas.

Owner Aubrey Thoede recalls the early years,” We started off as part of the industry using Rug Doctors. In those days, people would have to put paper down after they had their carpets cleaned because the carpet would stay wet for three days. Carpet cleaners pumped soaps and chemicals through the lines because that was the only way they could loosen the dirt. With our portable electric machines, we had to be careful not to kick the breakers on the light sockets. I actually had to redesign my machine with two electric cords just to deal with this issue. We eventually saved enough money to buy a twenty five horsepower (lawn mower engine powered) truck mount machine. Unfortunately, even it was too weak to clean the carpets down to their primary backing, so as a result, we saw our customer base every three to four months to deal with the same recurring issues. At some point we realized that soaps were not the answer, but in fact, were part of the problem.” Other inherent flaws in the industry were problems with over-wetting, re-occurring spots, and long extended periods of dry time.

All of these issues inspired Aubrey to separate Dirt Free from the industry (and the competition) through innovation. Aubrey realized that there needed to be an improvement in the power of the equipment, and the industry had no answers. A team of engineers was assembled, and with their help, he was able to design a new more powerful”Van Powered” cleaning machine. This new type of machine utilized the van’s motor instead of an electric motor or lawn mower engine. It was light years ahead of any other machine on the market. His first generation of machines assembled in the early 1990’s were even much more powerful than machines commonly sold today by many carpet cleaning machine manufacturers.

The vision for the future of Dirt Free is to weather the economic trials the entire nation has been through, and formulate new ways to save the carpet cleaning customer money over the replacement cost of their flooring. Aubrey explains,” Recent economic circumstances have put pressure on the individual customer. As a result,we want to find ways to go into their homes and give them relief from the economic troubles they face while providing unparalleled service.”
Fine Persian and Oriental Rug Cleaning
Did you know that most area rug cleaning companies use a cleaning agent similar to common laundry soap? Most of these cleaning agents (soaps) may or may not damage fine rug fibers, but either way they leave a soapy chemical residue that will cause the rugs to attract soils more quickly. The majority of fine area rugs are normally made from either wool or silk yarns. They may also be a blend of both types of fiber. Wool and silk are two of the most absorbent natural fibers known to man. If not cleaned and sealed properly, they will quickly absorb all types of dirt and airborne debris. This soiling will cause them to appear dull and faded, and can actually damage the fibers over time. Who can you trust with your fine Persian and Oriental area rugs? Dirt Free, of course! Dirt Free has been cleaning and maintaining fine Persian and Oriental area rugs for more than 20 years. We use our 5000 square foot area rug cleaning facility to clean, dry, and protect all types of area rugs. Our total cleaning process can normally be completed within only a few days, and pick-up and delivery are always included in the price.

Our patented cleaning methods have been designed to clean natural fibers without damaging or removing any of the natural oils in the fibers. These natural oils act as a preservative and help to keep the fibers soft to the touch. Whether silk, wool, or synthetic, your rug will receive customized cleaning and careful attention to detail. We regularly clean area rugs with estimated values from five hundred dollars to well over one hundred fifty thousand dollars. Our patented and time tested cleaning methods will ensure your rugs are restored to their original soft texture while leaving them free of chemical residues. As one of our valued customers, you may prefer to have your area rugs cleaned on site at your home of office. We can accommodate you and even seal your area rugs at your location. If you choose this option, we will take every precaution to protect your surrounding floors while the rugs are being cleaned and sealed. Either way, we guarantee your satisfaction. Call today to schedule an appointment, and one of our certified area rug cleaning specialists can inspect and evaluate the safest and most effective way of cleaning your area rugs.

How to Choose the Best Carpet Cleaner Shampooers
It was always overwhelming for me to find the perfect carpet cleaner when going to big box stores and I finally gave up and searched on Amazon.com® for the same product at a lower price. I needed mine to remove cat and dog hair and stinky doggy odor. Cats pretty much keep themselves clean and they never have an odor. It needed to be able to pull out the normal dirt and dust from people’s dirty shoes along with spilled coffee and soda. I wanted great qualities the same as you want. Features are important and so are the cleaning solutions because I never wanted hard feeling carpet on my feet ever.

Suction Strength
Carpet CleanerA best carpet cleaner machine must be able to have enough power for the motor to draw out dirt—whatever kind of dirt. The suction strength is the power to pull out by mechanical force the grime in your rugs.

High-class carpet cleaners have more powerful motors for sucking out the dirt subsequently sucking up the rinse water for your carpets to look clean and be soft as new. More suction means less time for the carpet to dry by removing more water.

Water Tank Capacity
TankThe larger water tanks are a bit heavier; however, you will have less frequent refilling of the cleaning solution in the tank. It’s a trade off: stop to add more cleaning solution for a lighter weight tank or have a slightly heavier unit needing no refills for carpet steam cleaners.

Accessories
AccessoriesIf you’re set on an upright carpet cleaner, buy one with a hose brush and crevice tool attachment for doing corners, steps, upholstered furniture, drapes, and blinds to get into those hard to reach nooks and crannies.

Features
FeatureThese two features are handy to have. With some cleaners you will get a built-in basket for collecting pet hair while you are cleaning. Some also blow out hot air onto the carpet or other item being cleaned for faster trying time.

Weight and Size
Carpet CleanerThe more powerful the motor the heavier the weight is for the carpet cleaner. If you’re weak like my spouse, then you will want a lighter model or perhaps a portable spot carpet cleaner. You don’t want anything that’s going to break your back or wear you out lifting, pushing, or pulling it.

Budget and Warranty
BudgetDepending on your choice, a carpet cleaner will be priced from $70- to $400 and up. That’s quite a range, so be sure what you want fits your budget if you’re dreaming to have a high-end model. Be sure your unit comes with a long time Warranty and customer service should you have any problems or questions. Always read your User’s Manual for things you never thought of.

How to Make Your Own Rug Shampoo cleaner

Oriental and Persian rugs are handmade wool carpet that is either knotted with pile or woven without pile. They are available in a wide variety of intricate colors and designs, and are considered by many to be valuable works of art. With their value in mind, it is essential that Oriental rugs receive excellent care to prolong their life and beauty

The best way to keep these beautiful floor coverings clean is to simply prevent them from getting dirty to begin with. Oriental rugs (particularly small ones) should receive regular, thorough vacuuming on both sides to eliminate dirt, dust, and debris. Taking off shoes before walking on Oriental rugs is a good idea too.

Even with the best dirt-prevention efforts, however, Oriental rugs will eventually require periodic professional deep cleanings just like any other floor covering. Extreme care must be taken during cleanings to ensure colors don’t run and the delicate wool fibers aren’t damaged.

Jon-Don carries specialty chemicals and cleaning treatments specifically designed to clean Oriental rugs without causing colors to bleed or delicate fibers to fray. We highly recommend that periodic deep cleaning be only performed by professional carpet cleaners.

Whether you own your own carpet shampooer or rent one from the supermarket every few months, the cost of the shampoo solution can add up. If you or someone in your family has allergies or chemical sensitivities, you may be looking for a natural alternative, a solution in which you know all the ingredients. Making your own rug shampoo solution at home not only saves you money, it allows you to control exactly what you’re putting on your floors.
Hand-Scrubbing Shampoo
1
Pour 3 teaspoons of the mild liquid detergent of your choice into a large spray bottle. Dishwashing liquid works well, as does liquid castile soap or delicate laundry detergent.

2
Add 1/2 cup white vinegar.

3
Add two to five drops of lemon, tea tree or lavender oil to the bottle to give your carpet shampoo antimicrobial cleaning power and a fresh scent. If you or anyone in your family has allergies, you may choose to omit the essential oils.

4
Add 2 cups of water. Shake the solution to mix it up and create a foamy lather.

5
Spray the foam over your carpet and scrub it in with a nylon-bristled scrub brush. Allow the carpet to dry, then dry or steam vacuum.

Steam Cleaner Solution
1
Add the same amount of white vinegar to the cleaning tank as the recommended amount of cleaning solution.

2
Add one small drop of mild detergent.

3
Add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice to the tank for added freshening and antimicrobial power.

4
Fill the tank to the recommended line with water. You are now ready to shampoo your carpets.

Things You Will Need
Spray bottle
Mild liquid detergent
White vinegar
Lemon, tea tree or lavender essential oil (optional)
Oxygen bleach (optional)
Tips
Add a scoop of oxygen bleach to the tank of your steam cleaner for extra stain-removing power.
Use unscented liquid detergent or unscented castile soap if you or anyone in your family have scent sensitivity or allergies. If green cleaning is a concern, look for plant-based surfactants made from coconut, palm or corn oil, which are biodegradable and don’t harm the environment.
Vacuum your rugs thoroughly before shampooing. Scrubbing a rug you haven’t vacuumed can grind in the dirt instead of washing it away.
Warning
While borax, ammonia or washing soda are powerful cleansers sometimes used in homemade rug shampoo recipes, avoid them if anyone in your family suffers from chemical sensitivity or skin irritation.

cheap rug cleaner cost

How much does it cost to clean a rug?
Area rugs are great elements for style, comfort, and function. However, with heavy foot traffic and wear, rugs often find themselves in need of a cleaning. In fact, rugs in high-traffic areas are recommended to be cleaned at least once a year. In this cost guide, we’ll look at the many factors and options for rug cleaning to decide which solution is right for your rug.

Almost every rug cleaning service charges by the square foot instead of by the hour and typically cleans the rugs at your home. In- house cleaning can be slightly more expensive because of travel fees, but if helps you avoid transporting a large rug. Off-site cleaning doesn’t disrupt your home with the cleaning process and drying time, but it can be difficult to transport large or fragile rugs, so it requires pickup and delivery services, which will increase the total cost. There are a variety of factors that contribute to the overall cost of a rug cleaning, including:

Size
The most common way to charge for rug cleaning is by size. The average cleaning cost is $2-$5 per square foot, which means a standard 8’x10’ rug would cost $160-$400 to clean. The higher cost processes typically include a decontamination bath.

Rug Material
Synthetic area hugs are the most resilient and the least expensive to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as silk and wool, are more delicate and require a different cleaning process, which can raise the price by up to 20%. Rugs that are older or more delicate may also have a higher cleaning fee, up to 35% more than standard costs.

Cleaning Method
Most cleaning companies start by vacuuming the rug. The traditional method is steam cleaning, which soaks the rugs with water and cleaner, removes the dirt, and then requires rugs are dried for a few days. Chemical cleaning involves less water but more cleaning solution and a faster drying time. The price for the two processes is comparable (around $2-$5 per square foot), and more services will inspect a rug before making a decision on how to best clean it. Some companies wash rare and delicate rugs by hand and hang them to dry. This is the most labor-intensive option and regularly the most expensive, averaging $4-$8 per square foot.

Enhancement and improvement costs
For rugs that are stained or have pet dander, many cleaners will offer a spot- cleaning service. This option focuses on pre-cleaning and deodorizing solutions on the affected areas before the entire rug is cleaned as normal. Prices range from an extra $1-$3 per square foot.
Some rug cleaning services offer pickup and delivery services, typically for $25-$50 per rug.
Adding a protective sealant can help the rug sustain further damage and stains. The process averages $0.50 per square foot for wool and silk rugs and $0.25 per square foot for synthetic rugs.
Older rugs may be susceptible to moths, which can destroy the fibers. A professional cleaning usually gets rid of moths, but you can also add a special moth treatment solution for around $50.

Rent, Hire, or Buy a carpet cleaner

Comparing the Costs of Carpet Cleaning
Wondering which makes the most sense: renting a carpet cleaner, buying one, or hiring a service to do the work? The answer depends on your budget and how you want to spend your time. To provide an idea of the costs, we priced the options for a house in Kansas City, Mo., with 1,600 square feet of carpeting in a living room, four bedrooms, an office, and two hallways.

Renting
With Rug Doctor, you can rent a machine from a partner location (Home Depot or Walmart, for example) for about $30 a day. The cleaning solution costs about $17 for 48 ounces; you’ll need three bottles for 1,600 square feet of carpet. Pretreating solution starts at $6 each.

Carpet Cleaner Buying Guide & Ratings
Out, Damned Spots! Stain Removal Guide for Your Home
Hiring
Stanley Steemer, a company that does everything—including moving your furniture—charges by the room. The minimum starts at $99, though that figure can vary depending on where you live.

Total: $257 per cleaning

Buying
Our runner-up carpet cleaner, the Hoover Dual Power Max Pet, costs $150. Detergent to clean 1,600 square feet of carpeting in our house would cost about $60.

Total: $150 + $60 per cleaning

So while the initial cost of buying is higher, the overall cost of renting would be roughly the same around the fifth use; it’s cheaper to own at the sixth use. Buying will always be less expensive than hiring a service.
How do I use a carpet cleaner? Empty the room of movable furniture and objects on the floor before you wash the carpet, to ensure the whole floor is cleaned evenly. Vacuum the carpet to pick up any loose dirt, dust and fluff. Read the carpet cleaner instructions to find out how much detergent to use – most manufacturers recommend you use their own brand. Read the instructions When using the carpet cleaner, follow the instructions about how to use the machine and how many times you need to go over each section of carpet – too much detergent in one spot could lead to an uneven finish. How long will my carpet take to dry? The best carpet cleaners generally leave carpets dry enough to walk on after about five hours. But a just-cleaned carpet will take around 24 hours to dry thoroughly. In our tests we check for how wet carpets are left after they’ve been washed. If you want to make sure your carpets are not left soaked, look for a carpet cleaner with a high star rating for drying – the more stars, the drier your carpet is left at the end of the cleaning process.

Will a carpet cleaner remove spills and stains? Carpet cleaners are best for general carpet cleaning, the kind you might do once a year to freshen up the house, or maybe just one room, as part of a spring clean. All carpet cleaners are able to suck up wet spills – nozzle attachments for the hose are especially handy for this. But for nasty marks, a spot cleaner carpet stain remover will be your best option. In our tests we check how well each carpet cleaner removes dried-in red wine, coffee and gravy stains. As a product, carpet cleaners generally don’t do a great job of tackling tough, dried stains.

If you’ve got light-coloured carpets, then sooner or later they’ll get dirty with everyday wear and tear – especially if you’ve got little ones or pets. You could call in a professional cleaner every time your carpets get dirty, but you may want to consider buying your own carpet cleaner. Head to our carpet cleaner reviews to find the best models, or keep reading for our top tips on getting the best results.

Best You Can Buy: Dyson Ball Multi Floor Canister Vacuum
If you are not concerned with price, the best vacuum you can buy for hardwoods and area rugs is the Dyson Ball Multi Floor Canister Vacuum. Don’t just take my word for it, J.D. Power gave it the highest numerical rating among canister vacuums in their 2015 and 2017 Vacuum Satisfaction Studies.

Dyson big ball multi floor canister vacuum
Dyson Big Ball Multi-Floor Canister Vacuum
This vacuum is designed to work on all surfaces featuring stiff nylon bristles that are incredibly effective at digging deep into rug fibers and removing dirt. It also has soft carbon fiber filaments designed specifically to remove dust from hardwoods.

Dyson Ball Multi Floor Vacuum head

As its name suggests, this vacuum is built with Dyson’s patented Ball™ technology which makes it extremely easy to maneuver; you never have to worry about the canister dragging and damaging the floor when you make sharp movements. The canister has large wheels on each side that make it easy to twist, turn, and spin without flipping over.

It also comes with a trigger in the handle that you can pull to easily change the power and speed of the bristles when transitioning from hardwood to rug.

Dyson Ball Multi Floor Vacuum trigger handle

Similar to the Kenmore 400 series, the Dyson Ball Multi Floor comes with HEPA filtration, is Certified asthma & allergy friendly, and has a .53 gallon dirt tank that releases with the touch of a button for simple and easy cleanup.

The most common complaint about this vacuum is that the suction power is too strong. Complaining that a vacuum’s suction power is too strong sounds ridiculous, however, the context around these complaints is that the intense suction power makes it difficult to maneuver on thicker rugs.

The superior performance of the Dyson Ball Multi Floor Canister Vacuum warrants a premium price. It depends where you buy it, but it is usually priced between $200 and $300. Considering the beauty and value of pristine floors, this vacuum is well worth the investment. You can check the latest pricing and read more reviews on Amazon.

What To Consider Before Buying a Vacuum for your Hardwood Floors and Area rugs
There are a handful of basic features to consider when buying a vacuum, especially if you plan to use it on both hardwoods and area rugs. The main things to consider are versatility, attachments, power, vacuum type, and price.

Versatility: Delicate On floors, Strong Enough for Area Rugs Too
If you have hardwood floors with area rugs throughout your home, the first thing to make sure is that the vacuum you buy is versatile enough for both surfaces.

When it comes to vacuuming you typically have two goals:

Thoroughly clean the floors and area rugs
Don’t scratch or damage the floors
To accomplish goal #1 you need to make sure you have enough suction power for both floors and rugs. In general, hard floors don’t require much suction to collect dust and debris. Rugs and carpets require more suction power because dust and debris get embedded deep into the threads and needs a greater force to clean.

When you are looking for a vacuum for both surfaces, make sure it has multiple power settings and brush attachments design specifically for each surface. If you don’t, you’ll end up with a vacuum that either does not have enough power for a rug or isn’t delicate enough for floors.

Attachments: Greater Versatility and Control
Nowadays vacuums come with all sorts of attachments. The most common attachments for multi-purpose vacuums are unique brush heads for hardwood floors, area rugs, and tools for dusting and getting into small areas like stairs or corners.

Bissell vacuum attachments

If you are looking to buy a single vacuum to use for both wood floors and area rugs, the most important attachments are brush heads for each surface. For wood floors, you’ll need a flat brush head with soft bristles to simply suck up dust or a specialized head that has a soft spinning wheel with special floor bristles.

Vacuum heads designed for rugs typically allow you to adjust for the different levels of thickness. They also use what is called a beater brush which is a bar with thick bristles that spin on within the head and digs deep into the rug. Floor attachments can have beater brushes too but the ones that do come with much softer bristles. Lastly, they typically have larger wheels that make it easy to maneuver on surfaces with more friction.

Power: Hardwood Floors Require Less Suction Power Than Area Rugs
When it comes to the suction power of vacuums, there are several different measures to look at including Watts, Amps, and Voltage. Most manufacturers will only give you one of these so it’s not easy to compare apples to apples. This article from BestVacuums.com gives a great overview of what each of these measures means, the caveats, and how to translate them into suction power.

The main point to remember is that it is important to have adjustable suction power settings. Certain thick rugs will require significantly more power than other rugs that are flatter. Hardwood floors typically don’t require as much power as area rugs. In fact, if your vacuum suction is too strong, you run the risk of damaging your floors. Area rugs sometimes rely on the strong vortex of a beater brush to scoop dirt out of the rug and into the vessel. Again, when you are looking for a vacuum for both, make sure you are able to adjust the power for each surface.

Vacuum Type: Canister Vacuums are Ideal for Multi-Surface Cleaning
The most common household vacuums are upright, stick and canister.

Upright vacuums are best for carpeted areas and typically have aggressive beater brushes and powerful engines that can dig into carpets for a deep clean. Some have adjustable heights to quickly adapt to different surfaces but typically they are designed for rugs first.
Stick vacuums are best for quick cleanups in small areas like bathrooms and kitchens. They are significantly less powerful than upright vacuums but are easy to maneuver and are typically very lightweight.
Canister vacuums the most versatile type of vacuum and, in my opinion, and the opinion of many others, the best option for both hardwood floors and rugs. Like the name states, they are made up of a canister that sits on the floor and houses the motor and the bag or compartment that collects the debris.
Connected to the canister are the suction hose, wand (the pole that connects the hose to the head) and the head. Canister vacuums usually come with attachments for both floors and carpets and also allow you to detach the hose from the wand and vacuum hard to reach places like window stills and bookshelves.

Value Pick: Bissell Hard Floor Expert Deluxe Canister Vacuum
Bissell canister vacuum

After hours and hours of researching and educating myself on the vacuum market, I decided to purchase the Bissell Hard Floor Expert Canister Vacuum. I’ve been using it for over a year and it has proven itself to be a reliable and versatile vacuum.

The Pros of the Bissell Expert Deluxe
The features I like the most about this vacuum are:

It is small, lightweight (9.1 pounds) and easy to maneuver.
It comes with several attachments making it simple to go from cleaning hardwood floors to area rugs to dusting hard to reach surfaces. The hardwood floor brush comes with soft bristles so you don’t have to worry about damaging your floors. The attachment for area rugs has 2 different height setting so you can adjust according to your rugs.
The power is also adjustable to suit every job and can turn up to 7 amps which is plenty for most household jobs.
Bissell vacuum power settings

Dust and debris are stored in a compartment in the canister (dirt tank) that is simple to empty. You don’t need to worry about periodically changing bags.
Bissell vacuum dirt tank

The power cord automatically retracts making life easy when it comes time to store the vacuum.
It comes with a limited one year warranty so you are covered if there is a malfunction not caused by misuse. View the warranty here.
Lastly, this vacuum is very affordable compared to other options on the market. See current pricing on Amazon here.
The Cons: Small dirt tank, suction power
The dirt tank is relatively small so you have to empty it fairly often (for me that means once a month).

About 6 months after we bought it, we vacuumed something that got stuck in the filtration area and caused our vacuum to stop working. This was extremely frustrating because we were getting the house ready for a family party and didn’t have a backup vacuum. We ended up having to send it back but luckily the malfunction was covered under the one year warranty. For those wondering, we ended up borrowing a neighbors vacuum, crisis averted.

I have not experienced this yet but the other main complaint that I’ve seen in my research was around the suction power. People complain that after a few months it loses suction and doesn’t have enough power, particularly for rugs. I haven’t experienced that but like I mentioned, If something like that happens within the first year, you are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Usually, you can fix it yourself by opening up the canister and making sure nothing is blocking the air passage.

carpet washer vacuum cleaner

wo important questions to ask when buying a vacuum cleaner are: Is it easy to handle and maneuver and can it really remove dust and dirt from all areas of my home? We wouldn’t be the Good Housekeeping Cleaning Lab if the vacuums on this list didn’t pass that test with flying colors.

But choosing the best vacuum cleaner for you and your home means thinking about more than just that. Consider what surfaces you’ll be vacuuming, how your home is laid out and how much time you have for cleaning up. Immediately below are our picks for the best vacuums in eight key categories. Scroll all the way down to learn more about what to consider before you buy a new vacuum and how to choose the best vacuum cleaner to meet your needs.
How We Test Vacuum Cleaners
The Good Housekeeping Cleaning Lab tests vacuum cleaners for how well they remove dirt deeply embedded into pile carpet and simulated pet hair evenly spread on a carpet’s surface. We look at how well they remove large and small debris from hard flooring like hardwood, tile, or linoleum, how well they clean along edges and how much suction they draw at the tools.

Our tests are based on the ASTM standard test methods the industry uses and each vacuum model is tested exactly the same way. Ease-of-use testing includes evaluating maneuverability, battery run-time for cordless vacuum cleaners, the controls, how easy the dust cup is to empty and clean or the bag is to change, and weighing how heavy the vacuum is.

Consumer testers rate the vacuums’ maneuverability by running it on a bare floor and carpet, around corners and under furniture. They rate the ease of removing the dust cup or bag, and the ease of operating the vacuums’ controls. We note and test any features like a battery charge indicator, a brush roll control button, or other tools and accessories.
Miele Dynamic U1 Maverick Vacuum Cleaner
This Miele model is ideal for allergy and asthma sufferers, since this Good Housekeeping Seal-holder with its HEPA filter did the best job in our tests of picking up dirt and keeping it trapped inside the vacuum. Its self-sealing bag also keeps dust out of the air when it’s time to remove and replace it.

This powerhouse cleans everything from delicate curtains to deep carpets and though some consumers testers said it was heavy, the swivel neck makes in maneuverable. It was also the quietest model in our tests.
Hoover React Powered Reach Plus Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
This Hoover can go from carpet to bare floors without missing a beat. Its special FloorSense Technology automatically adjusts the brush speed to prevent scattering and damage as you move from one floor surface to the next, so you don’t even have to flip a switch or turn a dial. It has a removable canister to better reach underneath low furniture and make above-the- floor cleaning easier, too.

The four included attachments are a crevice tool, motorized brush roll tool, stationery dusting brush and a soft bendable dusting brush to clean the tops of bookcases and ceiling fans.

best carpet shampoo machine

Selecting the right carpet cleaner does not have to be a difficult task, but it is easy to get lost in the technical details.

This is where I want to help. I have created a comparison chart with the top 10 buys in the US, an easy and no-nonsense guide to find the perfect cleaner for your needs, and short reviews with videos and comparisons of the 5 best carpet cleaning machines below the chart.

You can also go straight to our full reviews in the menu, where you will find helpful detailed comparisons of the different cleaners as well.
Model: Clicking on the model name will take you to amazon.com, where you can see the latest pictures and get the latest price of the product.

Est. Price: Prices always vary, depending on promotions, special deals etc, and that is why we have used this representation as a rough estimation of the price:
What to look for in a carpet cleaner?
What kind of carpet cleaner (or carpet shampooer as they are also called) you want to buy depends entirely on what you need it for. We have created a guide for you to help you find the best cleaner for you needs.

You have a large carpet
If you have a large area to clean it is a good idea to buy a cleaner that has a large tank. That way you will not waste any time going back and forward refilling the tank as you work.

BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine. Rug Doctor X3, BISSELL DeepClean Essential 8852 and BISSELL DeepClean Premier Pet 17N4 all have large tanks.
You have pets
A cat and a dog
For the pet owner look for a cleaner that is designed to handle stains from pets. Some units have baskets to collect pet hair, which can be handy. Recommended is also to purchase a cleaning formula designed for pets and odors.

Pets leaves stains and pet hair. To effectively get rid of both the hair and the sometimes smelly stains you would either need a cleaner that is designed specifically with pets in mind, or a very efficient professional cleaner. They will get rid of the stains, the hair and the smell, leaving both you and Fido happier.

Many of the pet cleaners have baskets to collect the hair from the pets. Also make sure to get a cleaning formula that is designed for pet stains and to eliminate odors.

You have small children
If you have small children it is a good idea to get an efficient cleaner that you can use often. There will be accidents again and again ;). If you are worried about using chemicals you can just load the cleaner with a 100 % natural cleaning solution or even just use hot water. The hot water used will still get the carpet clean.

A handy way to clean up the messes as they occur is to use a portable cleaner, that way you can easily bring it out and clean up the mess fast. They are lightweight and store easily. They are not meant for cleaning large carpets though.

You have to remove tough stains
You want the most effective cleaners that deep clean getting rid of the grime and dirt embedded in the fibers. They don’t all do that. If you have the budget for it, we can recommend BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine and Rug Doctor Mighty Pro. They are top of the line, they clean extremely efficient, in my experience better than many rental cleaners, and they can deodorize the carpets so by buying you will save a lot in the long run.

A slightly cheaper, but also very effective model is BISSELL DeepClean Deluxe Pet, 36Z9.

You are on a tight budget
Cleaning Apparel
The portable cleaners use the same cleaning techniques as the upright models, but they often have weaker suction and smaller tanks, which means that you will have to refill them more often. They are perfect for spot cleaning and cleaning smaller areas. They are also easy to handle because of their small size and light weight.

You can find good budget alternatives in our chart that still cleans efficiently. A great example of this is the Hoover SteamVac with Clean Surge, F5914900.

You need to clean you stair carpet
Look for a cleaner in our comparison chart that is specialized on cleaning stairs and terrain. They have a special design that will help you clean tough corners and angles.

You want a professionally clean carpet
Then you need one of the most efficient cleaners on the market, the good news is that there are extremely efficient carpet cleaners to buy nowadays that will make your carpet look great. If this is a one time thing, obviously renting would be better, but by buying you will save a lot of money in the long run if you will use the machine more than once or twice.

Two top cleaners on the market today is: BISSELL Big Green Deep Cleaning Machine and Rug Doctor Mighty Pro. Both brands are long time established and have a very good and solid reputation.

They are both pretty big machines, they may not be the best option if you have a lot of fixed furniture or uneven terrain.

Things to Know about carpet cleaner purchase

Designed to remove deeply embedded dirt and debris, a carpet cleaner might be a smart addition to your cleaning arsenal, especially if you have a busy household and a home with lots of carpet. It can make short work of ground-in dirt in a way even the best vacuums can’t. Stains, for that matter, too.

Carpet cleaners are nothing like a standard upright vacuum,” says Larry Ciufo, who oversees Consumer Reports’ carpet cleaner tests. In fact, “the instructions for these machines tell you to vacuum your floor first using a conventional vacuum cleaner, and then use the carpet cleaner to clean up embedded dirt.”

The carpet cleaners in our tests cost from about $100 to nearly $500, but you don’t have to spend a bundle to get spotless carpet.
How We Test Carpet Cleaners
It takes three days to put one carpet cleaner through our battery of cleaning-performance tests. Our engineers soil large swatches of off-white nylon carpet with red Georgia clay. They run a carpet cleaner over the carpet for four wet and four dry cycles to simulate a consumer cleaning a particularly dirty spot on a well-trafficked carpet. Then they repeat the test on two more swatches.

Over the course of the test, our experts use a colorimeter, a device that measures the absorption of light wavelengths, to take 60 readings of each carpet per test: 20 in its “virgin” state, 20 after it has been soiled, and 20 after it has been cleaned. Sixty readings on three samples make a total of 180 readings per model.

How to Choose a Carpet Cleaner
Considering one of these powerful cleaning machines? Here are five things to keep in mind as you shop.

  1. Carpet cleaners are heavy when empty—and even heavier after you fill up the tank. Adding a cleaning solution to the models in our ratings adds 6 to 15 pounds. We list the weight of the carpet cleaner when empty and when full on each model page.

The largest cleaner in our tests, the Bissell Big Green Machine Professional 86T3, weighs 58 pounds when full and may be difficult for one person to maneuver. The lightest model we tested, the Hoover SmartWash Automatic FH52001, weighs 12 pounds when empty and 20 when the tank is full.

  1. For routine carpet cleaning, the standard solution will do. Manufacturers recommend that you use their brand’s cleaning solution with their carpet cleaner—but they might sell a dozen or more types of specialized solutions.

For routine carpet cleaning, spot stain removers aren’t necessary. If you have a stubborn stain, like a pet mess, you could try the solution marketed for that type of stain.

  1. Check the settings, accessories, and length of the hose. Some carpet cleaners have only one tank for water and the cleaning solution. But we found that it’s more convenient to have two separate tanks, one for water and one for the cleaning solution. Some even premix the solution and water within the machine, saving you the hassle of having to measure out a full tank each time. Also look for a carrying handle, which makes it easier to move the machine around.

Settings to consider: Some manufacturers claim their models clean both hard floors, like wood and tile, and carpets. There are also carpet cleaners that have dry-only settings so that you can suck up more water after your initial cleaning, which may speed up drying time.

Our testers noted that hose length varies widely. Some models have a 61-inch hose; others have a 155-inch hose. Look for a model with a longer hose if you need to clean in tough-to-reach areas. “If your stairs have carpeting, you’ll want a longer hose to reach up the steps,” Ciufo says. “And remember, these machines are heavy. You don’t want your machine falling down the stairs after you tug the hose too far.”

  1. Carpet cleaners are loud. An average vacuum cleaner can produce up to 70 decibels of noise. A carpet cleaner is much, much louder—in our tests, the average noise level was 80 dBA. (In decibels, a reading of 80 is twice as loud as 70.) At this decibel level, we recommend wearing hearing protection, especially if you’re using the machine for a prolonged period. So grab noise-canceling headphones or earplugs that guarantee protection for up to 85 dBA. (Check out these tips for preventing hearing loss.)
  2. Cleaning takes time. A vacuum can come out of the closet ready to go. But a carpet cleaner? Not so much. First, you have to move furniture out of the area you plan to clean, then you should vacuum the carpet. Next, fill the machine with cleaning solution and water.
When using a carpet cleaner, you push and pull it just like a vacuum. Push the carpet cleaner out to arm’s length, then pull it back while continuing to squeeze the trigger. For a dry cycle, release the trigger and complete the same steps.

To suction the cleaning solution from the rug, make dry passes with the carpet cleaner. If the carpet is still dirty, repeat wet and dry passes until the cleaning solution you removed from the carpet runs clear. Once you’re satisfied, let the carpet dry completely before you walk on it or replace the furniture.

You’re not done yet. After admiring your work, you have to unplug the machine, clean out the tank, and remove any debris from the brushes following the instructions in your owner’s manual.

carpet steamer for sale

Carpeting of any kind is an investment, something of value you’ll want to maintain. Bring on confused pets, enthusiastic children, or bumbling adults, though, and you could have a mess on your hands. The sooner you can clean up that disaster, the better, which is why you’ll want to also invest in a good steam cleaner.

Yes, you can go to your nearest brand-name grocer or big box store and rent a machine when the need arises, but how convenient is that? By the time you’re back with a device that’s been in who-knows-what before you, the spot has dried and become a stain requiring more than a little damp suction to remove.

That’s why you need your own carpet steam cleaner to keep that investment looking like new. A good rule of thumb is considering the grade of floor covering you used and buying at least as good a cleaner if not better. Here’s what you need to know to determine which is the best steam cleaner for your carper.
Dry carpet cleaning or steam cleaning?
The type of carpet cleaning you choose also affects the cost.

The most popular method, known as steam cleaning, uses hot water extraction. This kind of cleaning doesn’t actually use steam but instead uses high pressure to push very hot water, along with a cleaning solution, into carpet. The resulting moisture is then removed via suction, and the carpet needs at least 24 hours to fully dry.

Most carpet manufacturers recommend using a steam cleaner for deep cleaning and often require homeowners to use steam cleaning in order to keep the warranty valid on their flooring. Carpet cleaners may use either portable electric steam cleaners or vehicle-mounted equipment for more powerful suction.

The cost to hire carpet cleaning services to steam-clean your carpets varies depending on where you live. Carpet cleaning prices for a 2,200-square-foot home with three bedrooms, living room and one hallway can cost as low as $75 while the entire house could run $550. In national polls the typical range paid fell between $120 to $235.

Dry carpet cleaning, also known as “low moisture” or “encapsulation” cleaning, uses a chemical solution and minimal water for a quicker clean, but it can’t reach as deep as powerful wet cleaning methods.

Best for Area Rugs, Budget Pick: Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe

Compared to our previous listings, this Hoover is budget-conscious while being a well-functioning machine on all levels. It cleans about 33 square feet per reservoir with a hose length of eight feet. Its weight when full still makes it easy to move to those places a shorter hose can’t reach.

Heating air to aid drying is part of the suction process, so in addition to good water extraction, it speeds up evaporation of the remaining dampness. That’s a big difference from other models, and it means you’ll be able to replace your furniture faster. Users like the separate detergent tank, allowing the machine to mix the correct amount of solution to the clean water for application.

Proprietary SpinScrub brushes lift dirt and stains from all directions, packing a lot of power into its cleaning cycle according to users. The major complaint is an issue with a component in the brushes system rusting from contact with water. It appears that if the machine is left in a position to allow this area to dry, it’s not a problem, but it is a consistently reported complaint.

best Small carpet cleaning machines

The humble vacuum cleaner does a fantastic job of getting rid of everyday dust and dirt from your carpets, but a carpet cleaner promises to do so much more…

Carpet cleaners use a combination of specially formulated cleaning solutions and powerful brush heads to reach deep into your carpet pile, lifting grime and ground-in dirt away. In many cases, carpet cleaners also restore and lift carpet, leaving it looking refreshed and looking almost new. These handy pieces of kit are also versatile, with many of the models we tested featuring both hard-floor and upholstery cleaning capabilities.

The GHI tested seven carpet cleaners for performance, ease of use, design, and instructions. Here are our top five…

RUG DOCTOR
Rug Doctor Deep Carpet Cleaner

We saw impressive results on our carpet cleaning tests when using the Deep Carpet Cleaner. After a few passes, almost all of the stains had been removed, requiring only a little more cleaning from this Rug Doctor model. The cleaner also restored and lifted the carpet pile, making it look refreshed. We did find the Deep Carpet Cleaner a little difficult to manoeuvre because it is so large; rather than pushing forward as you would when vacuuming, this model calls for the user to go forward applying the cleaning solution then pull backwards over the stain.

The results on our hard floor cleaning test were average, though. While the cleaning solution was applied evenly, the floor wasn’t completely clean when we had passed over it a few times. The Deep Carpet Cleaner scored full marks on our upholstery cleaning test thanks to the Hand Tool attachment. The upholstery was left completely clean and almost dry. A good option for carpets and upholstery.
Bissell CrossWave 3-in-1 Multi-Surface Cleaner 1713

The Bissell Crosswave may not be able to clean a whole carpet, but the machine makes up for it with its compact design and its seamless manoeuvrability. The tanks don’t have the largest capacity. The clean tank holds 828ml and the dirty one holds 620ml, but we liked how the clean tank features markings for small and large areas to ensure there is little cleaning product wastage. On our carpet cleaning test, we saw some mixed results, the muddy carpet wasn’t left completely clean after a few passes and took some perseverance to lift all of the stains.

However, the carpet colour was unaffected by the cleaning and the previously stained patch of carpet looked restored and lifted. Results on hard floor were mixed. While the centre of the floor was totally clean, some residual dirt got pushed to the edges that was difficult to pick up with the Crosswave. All of the controls are in a good, accessible position and the handle is comfortable. The Crosswave distributes the cleaning solution evenly too.
imageRUG DOCTOR
Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner

Small and compact, the Portable Spot Cleaner makes light work of cleaning on carpet and upholstery but left a little more to be desired when cleaning hard floors. The tanks have very large capacities, meaning you’ll be able to clean a very large area before running out. The clean tank stores 1.9L and the dirty tank stores 1.12L. We loved the motorised brush head that gets right down into the carpet’s pile for truly deep cleaning.

On our carpet cleaning test, we found that almost all of the stain was removed after just a few passes of the brush; only a few more passes left the carpet as new. We didn’t see as impressive results on our hard floor cleaning test. While the solution was applied evenly, the floor was left completely soaked after cleaning. The brush handle makes cleaning upholstery a breeze. As with carpet, after a few passes only a faint stain remained, and after more cleaning the upholstery was completely clean! It’s a great all-rounder for anyone limited on space (or not looking to clean the whole carpet!).

One feature unique to this machine is the Express Clean Mode. This is for small areas with lighter staining, and the big advantage is that it dries in an hour. professional carpet shampooer

A commercial carpet extractor works by injecting cleaning solution and water into carpet or upholstery and then vacuuming it out with powerful suction. Carpet extractors are known by many names including steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, portable carpet cleaning machines, portable cleaning equipment, etc and are the best carpet cleaner machines.

Carpet Extractor: EDIC Galaxy 500 PSI Top ImageIf you’re doing a lot of commercial work you need a carpet cleaning machine that is durable and can take the punishment it will receive on the job.

What should you look for in a commercial carpet extractor? The common features that you should use for comparison include vacuum power, pump PSI, tank capacity, and heater or no heater.

Vacuum Power

Carpet extractor carpet cleaning machines come with two-stage and three-stage motors. Three-stage motors are more powerful and will clean faster however, they are more expensive and require two power cords instead of just one. If you need the extra cleaning power you should go with a three-stage motor.

Pump Pressure

The pump on your carpet shampooer determines how powerful the machine’s spray is. Pump spraying pressure is measured in PSI. Pumps come in two PSI versions, 100 and 1000 PSI. The more powerful pump will drive solution deeper into the carpet, make cleaning faster, and do a better job of cleaning.
Recovery/Solution Tank

Commercial carpet extractors have two tanks. One is for the clean water and solution called the solution tank and the other holds the dirty water after cleaning and is called the recovery tank. For heavy-duty commercial work you should plan on a recovery/solution tank capacity of at least 12 gallons. This will minimize the number of times you need to stop and fill/empty.

Heater

A heater is an optional feature that comes on some extractor carpet cleaner machines. Heaters are not as important as other features, but they can improve cleaning performance and save time.

We searched commercial carpet cleaning forums, manufacturer sites, social media, and customer review sites to find the most popular and highly rated commercial carpet extractors.

steam cleaning a rug

Steam cleaning cleans spots on upholstery and carpet that you cannot remove through dry cleaning with a vacuum alone. If you have large area rugs in your home that do not fit in the washing machine, or that you should not machine wash, use the steam cleaning process to clean the rugs. The moisture from a steam cleaner damages wood flooring surfaces, however, so if you plan to steam clean your area rugs over hardwood floors, you must do some surface preparation first.

Step 1
Pick the area rugs up off the floor. If the rugs are large, you may need to roll them to remove them from the space.
Step 2
Cover the hardwood floor with a waterproof barrier. Use any kind of plastic sheeting or tarp, like painter’s plastic, and tape the plastic to the walls around the room with masking tape.

Step 3
Lay the area rugs that you want to steam clean back down on the covered hardwood floor. Follow the directions provided with the steam cleaner that you rented or purchased to use the specific steam cleaning machine properly.

Step 4
Allow the rugs to dry for 24 to 48 hours and then remove the rugs from the hardwood floor, pull up the plastic and return the rugs to their original locations.
Carpet cleaners are used to removing dirt and germ of carpets and beneficial equipment. Do you know how does a carpet cleaner work? It is an essential tool and directly related to our room weather. As dirty clean destroy the room weather badly.

It is possible to clean the carpet by taking a professional service. In this case, you should recognize that a good professional cleaning agency would do a better job. But they also use a carpet cleaning machine to complete their cleaning process. Professional carpet cleaning is a much more cumbersome process than a home carpet cleaning machine.

How Does a Carpet Cleaner Work?
We are describing here the carpet cleaning process by assuming that you want to purchase a carpet cleaning machine for your home carpet cleaning or corporate using in the small office.

Actually, most of the home carpet cleaning machine uses a method of steam cleaning means hot water extraction. In this procedure, hot water with mixing detergent spreads on the carpet. It is a really effective procedure for deep cleaning into the fibers of the rug. Some carpet also comes with pre-heating feature which helps you to dry your carpet within a short time.

In steam cleaning techniques, Users spray cleaning solution or detergent on the mat and let it soaks for near about 15 minutes. Then operators of the cleaning machine pump water into the carpet and extract the dirty with the high powered vacuum machine. For this kind of device, the key components are Boiler, Refill Tank, Automatic Refill, Detergent tanks, and Steam Vacuum, etc.
Can I use my carpet cleaner on mattresses?
We would recommend against using a carpet cleaner on mattresses as a carpet cleaner can leave the mattress extremely damp. A damp mattress can attract mold and take a long time to dry out.

A steam cleaner with an upholstery tool would be better suited to clean mattresses as the jets of steam offer a more penetrative clean, while leaving your mattress slightly less wet. But not all mattresses can be cleaned using steam, and it best to check the warranty label.

So, a plain old vacuum cleaner might be the best tool to use to ensure you don’t damage your mattress.

cheap carpet cleaner machine

The best carpet cleaners, otherwise called carpet shampooers, can free your carpets and rugs from embedded dirt, pet stains and odors. Using the proper tools and carpet cleaning machines to maintain and clean your carpets will keep your home looking great for visitors. A carpet cleaner also helps prolong the life of your carpets.

Buying a carpet cleaning machine is more affordable than ever and takes the hassle out of finding an expensive carpet cleaning service in your area.

Our tests show that the Hoover Power Scrub is the best carpet cleaner for deep cleaning your home. This machine is great at removing stains, and it left our carpets drier than most. In fact, the Power Scrub performed above average in all the important areas we tested: stain removal, maneuverability, water extraction, ease of use and maintenance. It also has a fair price.

  1. Bissell PowerLifter PowerBrush: Most quiet

Bissell PowerLifter PowerBrush review

  1. Hoover Smartwash Automatic: Most maneuverable

Hoover Smartwash Automatic review
Can I use my carpet cleaner on upholstery?
A lot of carpet cleaners come with upholstery attachments, like the Rug Doctor Deep Cleaner. If you are buying a carpet cleaner with this purpose in mind, please check that there is a relevant accessory for this function.

Best carpet cleaner for thick carpet

Can I use my carpet cleaner on wooden floors?
We wouldn’t recommend using a carpet cleaner on any type of wooden flooring. The soap and chemicals can have a detrimental effect on the wooden finish, often striping off the vaneer and finish. We would recommend a chemical free cleaner like a steam mop for water-sealed floors only. Never use a steam device on an unsealed floor, such as natural wood, as this could result in water damage.

Can I use my carpet cleaner on linoleum or vinyl floors?

We wouldn’t recommend using a carpet cleaner on linoleum floors. Water can get trapped under the linoleum which can cause bubbling and the floor to slip out of place. The brushes would also not clean a flat hard surface like they would a carpet. Steam mops are a better option, as long as they have a dial to adjust the amount of steam, as heat and condensation can also affect the adhesive holding the linoleum to the floor.

upright carpet shampooer

You probably don’t need to buy an upright carpet cleaner. Aside from spot-cleaning major stains, one wash per year is plenty for most people, so it makes more sense to rent a machine or hire a pro. But if you want fresh-looking rugs all the time, get the Bissell DeepClean Lift-Off Deluxe Pet 24A4. We tested eight models, and this was the only one that completely cleaned up our mess.
Bissell DeepClean Lift-Off Deluxe Pet 24A4
The best dirt and stain removal
This is the only carpet cleaner we tested that completely removed dirt and other tough stains. Thanks to the lift-off canister, it doubles as a convenient spot cleaner, too
The DeepClean Lift-Off was able to wash a heap of potting soil out of our test carpet in just a handful of back-and-forth passes, whereas every other model left something behind (or just smeared the dirt around). That’s enough of a reason to pick the DeepClean Lift-Off, but for bonus points, it’s also an excellent spot cleaner. Using either its main scrubber or its hose tool, we were able to totally remove tough stains—including dried red wine and bacon grease—that every other cleaner struggled with. Even better, it has a lift-away canister (identical to our favorite standalone portable spot cleaner, as far as we can tell) that makes using that hose a little more comfortable. The main downsides are that when you need to use it in upright mode, it’s heavy and bulky compared with other models, and it costs more, too. We also found that it left our rug much more damp at the end of a cleaning session.

Hoover Turbo Scrub Carpet Cleaner FH50130
Cheaper, nimbler, okay at cleaning
Although it left behind some dull stains that the Bissell cleaned up in our tests, this Hoover is much cheaper, smaller, and lighter. It could keep rugs looking pretty good between professional cleanings.
The Hoover Turbo Scrub Carpet Cleaner FH50130 is not quite as good a cleaner as the Bissell 24A4, but it is smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable, for a lot less money. We found that the Hoover left the dirtiest parts of our test rug looking a little dull, and it struggled to clean up red wine and ink stains (even when we used its scrubbing hose tool). But if you hire a professional every year anyway, you could use this Hoover to keep the fibers looking relatively bright between those visits. It also has a heat-dry feature, so you don’t have to wait as long to walk on your carpet again after a cleaning
Bissell DeepClean Lift-Off Deluxe Pet 24A4
The best dirt and stain removal
This is the only carpet cleaner we tested that completely removed dirt and other tough stains. Thanks to the lift-off canister, it doubles as a convenient spot cleaner, too.
The Bissell DeepClean Lift-Off Deluxe Pet 24A4 is the best upright carpet cleaner we tested, as it removed more dirt than any other machine. Both the main scrubber tool and the attachments were capable of lifting the toughest dried-on stains we could make. It has a detachable portable unit that, as far as we can tell, is identical to the Bissell SpotClean Pro, our favorite portable carpet and upholstery cleaner. This makes it particularly agile for cleaning stairs, furniture, car interiors, or other non-carpet surfaces. It’s missing several convenient features we like to see in upright cleaners—such as a cord clip on the handle, a lightweight design, and level lines in the solution tank—but it was the one machine we tested that was obviously superior in cleaning performance. It’s also easier to take apart and clean.

Sanitize and Deodorize to Reduce Allergens and Bacteria with Healthy Home Package
Does anyone in your home suffer from allergies or asthma, making you more keenly aware of allergens and air quality in your home? Do you want to avoid the spread of everyday germs and bacteria in your home? Soft furnishings such as couches and chairs are actually beneficial to home health because they act like giant filters that absorb and trap common allergens and germs. But, just like any air filter, they must be properly cleaned to remain most effective at trapping particulates as they settle from the air. Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning method has been tested and proven by a leading independent air quality laboratory to remove an average of 98.1% of common household allergens from the carpets and upholstery we clean. And when a sanitizer is added with the Healthy Home package, testing showed that we’re able to remove 89% of the airborne bacteria, improving indoor air quality*. And the special deodorizer our upholstery cleaners use doesn’t just hide or cover up the odors that have been absorbed into your furniture. It actually removes them, keeping your furniture and air fresh for longer. Our Healthy Home Package is our most thorough and extensive process in deep-cleaning upholstered furniture, improving air quality and making your home a safer and healthier place for you and your family.
